Our first Scarlet & Violet set will release in English on March 31st, 2023! Usually the set would have released a month earlier in February, but they’re probably trying to make space for Crown Zenith‘s special release in January.
Our English set will feature 198 cards before secret rares. This means it will be a combination of Scarlet ex and Violet ex‘s 156 cards plus its three “Starter Set ex” decks.

Finally, silver borders. The English edition of the game catches up to 2003. (I wish this could've happened sooner. The yellow borders are so obnoxious on the Crown Zenith art cards. It's nice to see it finally happen, though.)

The set symbols finally aligning with Japan is also really nice, and the guaranteed holo-per-pack thing is also in alignment with most JP boxes I've bought (I assume it's standard now?). At this point it's tempting to ask "when will the card backs finally match?" for even more alignment with the primary language edition of the game, but..

BASIC ENERGY ENERGY BASIC GRASS ENERGY GRASS

Really awful stylistic choice. All they had to do was include the word "Basic" in the top left corner. The old energies had one information repeated for convenience in the hand, these ones have two pieces of information tripled for some reason.

Simultaneous card releases will never happen. Japan is always one step ahead of us.

"Due to global inflation impacting the cost of materials and production, Pokemon Trading Card Game products will see varying MSRP increases in select markets with the launch of the Scarlet & Violet series. For example, the price of a booster pack will increase from $3.99 to $4.49 USD."

Pure corporate GREED. This is pretty disgusting.

English sets in the future will now look bland, due to the absence of set symbols. Seriously, set symbols just adds the beauty of the card.
There were too many and it's been too long. It was becoming difficult to understand what they were meant to be and it didn't really help with recognition once there were so many it began to feel like an effort to recognize..

First of all, WPM, why are you saying that all Terrestrialized Pokemon will have the same barrier effect? Is this confirmed? It seems way more likely that it'll be different for each Pokemon.

Second, yay, silver boarders! Actually, yay for unifying things more in general. Well, maybe except for losing set symbols.

Third, I wonder how PTCGL will handle this change with packs? If they keep it at one per pack, that's BS, but if they keep it at 3 that could massively improve the economy.

Fourth, man, that's late. That also likely means no rotation until basically April, and we might be going down to 3 main sets per year?

Finally, booooo, ex isn't in the set name. I'm upset.

holy crap a full extra 50 cents! not sure how i am gonna buy packs now! :( but go check out what wotc has been doing to see what real greed looks like.

Oh man, its about time for silver boarders! I feel like they are really trying to listen to the fan base this time around. The price hike isn't a surprise but at least they are trying to compensate for it unlike other companies. Wish comic book companies would do something similar. Ok you want to charge 5.99 for 1 comic but how about give us more than 32 pages? how about 42 instead? Anyways, great stuff and can't wait to dive into this set!

Yes, the official commentators announced this in the Japanese YouTube video. Unless they were wrong!

Wth, man?

Imagine purchasing an ETB and the 1-colored die is a plain worded set symbol? That would be too L for that, man. What'll they use for sites like limitlesstcg for decklists and such? Explain to me, so that I can enlightened myself

Dude, they did that EX- Nuggets thing way back 2003. They will never go back to that set name thing again. Also, in the trademark, there was a set named called "Triple Beat" and "Clay Burst smth". Meaning your point is invalid

I like most of the changes: finally silver borders, I was waiting for it!
I also like the new set symbols and rarity indicators.

But I'm kinda worried about the pricing... in Italy, booster packs cost 1.5 the american price: if they rise it again, it's way too much! :(
