It's the start of the Mega Evolution series rather than part of the Scarlet & Violet series. They said as much in the initial announcement, and Mega Brave/Mega Symphonia have Japanese set codes "M1" instead of "SV12." They used to do this a lot before Black and White.

I wouldn't read too much into Crown Zenith's naming; that was just how all special sets were before Scarlet and Violet. If you want to read way too much into something:

OOF. The current craze hasn't really been a problem for competitive play since the hype isn't for minimum rarity stuff, but if most stores are getting nothing, we might face an actual supply crunch for singles. I feel lucky to have gotten an order in for an ETB, but now I almost hope the sets...

It's been my pet theory for a while now that the SV series is a transitional period to unified releases. We switched to silver borders, retired the bespoke set symbols, started using Japanese pack art, and got near 1-to-1 sets like Shrouded Fable/Night Wanderer, and now we're getting a dual set...

Putting the VG type symbols on TCG products feels wrong. :<

Should be, yeah. They're normal sized and have regulation marks (and are reprints of existing cards).

The phrasing on Eevee ex's Ability seems more open-ended than Eevee-GX's. Is it compatible with cards like Salvatore, or do we run into "evolves into" ≠ "evolves from" issues?

I think the ones with the fat-in-the-center S are preliminary images. That same Seadra has a "normal" S on Pkmncards.com and PTCGL: (Some cards with the other font do slip through the cracks, like Skarmory TWM 119, but the version that actually went to print is correct, judging by Ebay listings.)
