Lightning Pokemon Return

As everyone knows, Mega Rayquaza is going to break the current format for regionals. It sets up so fast and easily One shots everything. Looking at everything we have in current format, are Lightning decks going to pop up more often? Normally we see people tech in a raichu line or a dedenne, but is that going to be enough to face a full onslaught of Rays? Are we going to be searching for that next big tech for it or is Manectric going to be enough. Id like to know all of your opinions on the matter. Lightning types don't get much hype but since landy is rotationg after regionals could we see a come back for out generator chargers?

It's possible. Manectric OHKOs a linked Ray with Assault Laser. We might see some Lightning/Water combos to handle Landorus.

Decks that rely heavily on DCE, like Toads and even M Ray itself, can easily find space to run a 2-2 Raichu line. You could do that before to tech against Yvetal, but now it's going to have much more of an impact because of M Ray.

MegaMan seems to be much less techeable and more of a deck-based-around-it case (paired with other attackers) because it needs much more than 4 cards to be effective. Nonetheless, with Yvetal not seeming to go anywhere soon and M Ray ascending as the new hype deck, we might see a lot more of decks with MegaMan being used and being succesful.

To fully counter Rayquaza you'd have to play a Garbodor line because of Altaria, which can also be set up in one turn.

Im looking at rotation though. Garb wont be in format unless they keep LTR in rotation. Therefore Raichu and Menectric seem to be the only logical choices as of now.

Manectric Crobat might be able to do well against Rayquaza Altaria to KO Swablus / Altarias on the Bench with Crobats. If Rayquaza wasn't so dang fast...

I believe that Manectric/M manectric is gonna become s huge part of the meta, more than it already is.

Wally Ninetales and Silent Lab or Rough Seas could really throw a wrench in the deck's works, so if you run that alongside Mega Mane or Toad, you might be able to counter it completely.

Remember that Silent Lab only works for Basic Pokemon with Abilities. So Alteria wouldn't be affected by it. The problem in facing a M-Ray deck is speed. It is possible that they have Wally, Winona and other tricks to set up very quickly. Manetric might have a chance but only if they didn't set up quick.

silent lab would be used to stop shaymins from being played one after another. That is where the deck achieves all of its speed. When players throw down 3-4 shaymins in one turn, chances are they are drawing through half their deck in one turn

How so? Is it because of Rayquaza EX? I think Mega Manectric EX will be good against it as well, but I fear that Rayquaza EX would still out-speed it. Doesn't Altaria also make it trade unfavorably? Without Garb you can't get around Altaria and they just win the prize trade. With Garb you lose room to devote to other match ups.

I think it will have to be M Manectric/Manectric with Garbodor to shut off Altaria or Bats to snipe off Altarias and Swablus.

I think the new Thunderus EX deserves a little more love than it has been getting. Its first attack is obviously very good and has very little downside, and the second attack, while having the drawback of doing 50 damage to itself, gives Manectric decks the ability OHKO (w/ Muscle Band, LaserBank, etc...) that it previously lacked.

This discussion seems to be mainly based on countering Rayquaza EX, and if people are truly worried about that specific matchup, they should just play Head Ringers and Hammers. It dramatically slows down the Rayquaza player's ability to set up.

What you said are only two parts of the equation. Circle Circuit raichu, Wally, and knowledge of the supporter rules, can be used in conjunction with, assuming the Raichu user goes second, your head ringer + hammers idea to KO M-Rayquaza-EX on turn 1: If the opponent wastes his/her Wally, and his/her supporter for the turn, on Vulpix to evolve it into PCL Ninetales, you can use M-Ray's own Skyfield weapon against him by using Wally(to evolve pikachu) + CC on turn 1 to KO M-Ray no. 1, and then, on turn 2, two possibilities open up:

1. If Rayquaza goes mega w/ a Spirit Link attached, and Swablu evolves to eliminate the Lightning weakness, and an energy is attached to M-Ray on the opponent's side of turn 2 in any order of occurrence, you can use Xerosic(to remove the spirit link) + Head Ringer + Hammers + CC on turn 2 to put M-Rayquaza 40-60 damage away, depending on whether or not Muscle Band is attached, from getting KO'd...

OR...

2. If the opponent fails to evolve Swablu to get rid of the Lightning weakness, CC alone, w/ no Head Ringer or hammers needed, could be used to KO M-Ray no. 2 w/o opposing Altaria in play.

^ Nice point, totodile... just forgot the CC Raichu part...
