Media My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic

Hi, I'm PMJ and I'm still the coolest moderator, even in green! I'd like to take this time to sort of preface Zenith's greeting with a greeting of my own.

This is the discussion thread for My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic. As the title says used to say, we are 20% cooler than any other clan, defunct or otherwise.

As mostly males, we understand how you might want to post saying something about how you don't "get" why we could like a show that is directed towards little girls. I advise you not to, for punishment will be swift and merciless.

We are always looking for more people to induct into the herd, and we welcome all legit inquiries, but let me say this. I (and Zenith) run this show. Keep in mind that, as a fan of this show, I watch this thread all the time. I will not tolerate any kind of misbehaving or rude behavior towards us. We don't go into your discussion threads and hate on your favorite thing; show us the same courtesy.

With that out of the way, a few guidelines I'd like everyone to adhere to.

1. Please do not post dumb posts. If you have to ask "is my post dumb?", then it probably is. I'm not saying you have to write a paragraph in every post. Now that season two is upon us, discussion should be high and there should be a minimal amount of what somepony finds spammy. As I said, however, discussion in this thread should never be slow since we will always have something to talk about (except for when we don't).
2. Posting pictures or videos is fine, and is actually encouraged. Just keep it suitable for everypony: posting a picture of, say, Rainbow Dash and Spitfire kissing would be okay. Showing what they're doing an hour later, if you know what I mean, is not okay. Make sure if you post a video or a large image, you enclose them in spoiler tags.
3. Don't feed the parasprites. There's a reason why we are the best fandom; let's show everyone why that is. Report them and I or another moderator will banish Luna them to the moon.

more as it develops

That is all from me. Enjoy, everypony :]

Hi! This is Zenith. I run this thread, and I have things to say too, I guess?

Basically, I started this thread waaaaay back in April 2011 in order to discuss ponies with other fans of ponies. There were a lot of people being idiots about the whole thing though, and a lot of haters for some stupid reason or something, so eventually this become a Pokebeach Group so that non-members wouldn't be able to post. But as you know, that forum was dismantled, so we had to move back here. I will be brief.

DO NOT TROLL. Do not be a moron. Do not anger PMJ. And read that blue text up there and such.

That's it from me. Keep calm and canter on, my little ponies!

5/5 post of the year

p.s. i like sombra

edit: oh man the gif isn't even pony related this post just keeps on giving

sombra's a cool example of "villain as force". he didn't need development, he did just fine acting as a pseudo-force of nature

Season 4 premiers same day as the Doctor Who 50th anniversary.
Sombra was alright, but super lack of screen time just made him obsolete. I didn't even know he spoke

Does anyone else think that MLP's success is due in part to the plotline being very similar to modern Battle Manga? (Like One Piece, or Naruto.)
Mainly the overarching notion of camaraderie and friendship making you a better/stronger person, and using that to defeat any nonsense, evil, or complication that comes your way.

No... just... no.
Please, don't ever compare MLP to naruto.

Rarity is mad at you now, don't make me put the one of twilight drinking
(did I do it well? guys?)

Also, hi! I saw 5 whole episodes as of now.
This show is now the only thing to ever make me want to wake up early, a feat previously believed impossible.

Can I compare it to Fairy Tail?

Honestly, don't you guys see the similarity? And I'd assume that most MLP fans are also Anime fans. (Because who isn't?)

I can only talk for myself, of course, but I wouldn't be so quick to compare or even contrast MLP to any anime.
MLP is a western cartoon, very different from anime, not only in cultural background and audience, but also in the methods it uses to convey whatever situation, message or moods it has to convey for the story to work.

Even if both deal with matters of friendship, and, even then, what cartoon doesn't? I'd be hard-pressed to name any anime or cartoon that didn't treat the subject of friendship at any point. I'ts as cliche as it gets.
Even then, it's not the same. Naruto bored the crap out of me, honest, and it never seemed to be about friendship, it seemed to be a regular ol' underdog story, the outcast rising over the common man, and the popular and powerful falling, only with psychotic "ninjas" (sure, let's call them that) instead of a plucky b-ball team or a dog.
It would take someone more familiar with more kinds of anime to describe it better, but that's what I think.

(imagine relevant pony gif here)

MLP is a cartoon that is popular because of its relatively clever writing and a stupid article someone wrote about "the death of creator-driven animation". that's basically it.

in addition, any similarities to anime are negligible, especially shounen series. i mean, other than "friendship!!" there is literally nothing the same between them.

What's that article? I only knew about the clever writing part.

Okay, let me see if I got this: This guy writes an article about how the recent revival of MLP, strawberry shortcake and something else has killed the "cartoon d' auteur"; but then, many adults reading the article check out the series, and they like it. A lot (who wouldn't?) and thus, friendship is magic became a worldwide phenomenon, all because of a guy dissing the show and the fact that the show was so good it turned the people who went to make fun of it into it's more fierce defenders?.

Maaaaaaan... maybe god is a brony? (pfffft, of course he is.)

I never saw the original my little pony when I was little, but I'm 100% sure it wasn't anything like this. In my opinion, this show IS a "cartoon d' auteur". Tell you more, I'd put it in the same category as Batman: TAS (and I NEVER joke when it comes to Batman: TAS).

Edit: Oh, Oh, just had an idea: Paul dini + lauren faust: MLP:FIM/batman TAS crossover, the incredible writing and characterization of BTAS plus the art style of faust, plus the ponies and the g****** batman.
You know you want to see pinkie pie going on a party rampage with the joker and harley quinn, and rarity going jewelry "shopping" with catwoman.

Nevermind. I just watched The Mysterious Mare Do Well so, IT ALREADY HAPPENED. BEFORE I EVEN THOUGHT OF IT. The music reminiscent of BTAS (therefore awesome), the posters during the mare's parade in the style and palette of BTAS, and the plot similar to "batman: mystery of the batwoman" make it the best episode ever. hands down. And if you don't like it:

Wow, someone who actually loves Mare-Do-Well!
That episode right there is the absolute worst according to many other Bronies, because of how Rainbow Dash acted in it.
Definitely don't get me wrong, I don't hate it and I'm NOT bashing you for liking this episode! I'm not a basher. I'm just congratulating you for expressing an opinion that is different than the majority. #LoveandTolerance

Mare do well gives rd character development. I dont see how her getting humbled when she needed to be makes it the worst episode ever
