Yeah I agree that the game is a bit limited. I had to stop everything and finally evolve my Growlithe and Fraxure. It would have been impossible to beat him without getting my Arcanine with Outrage or training Haxorus higher than his own. And if you didn't know about not evolving Arcanine right...

I don't think Bulbasaur isn't based off of frogs. Rock is also weak to Ice so Chespin is still stronger than Froakie, and Fennekin is now able to beat both of the other starters because Ground trumps Rock and Ice types.
