It's not really Steels that it has a problem with though. What about Gliscor to give you an immunity to Toxic? Or Scizor, for a more offensive approach.

So what do you use to counter sand teams? With Toxic heavily present plus Sandstorm damage (and SR), without Magic Guard you'd need support.
It's definitely unique, using Unaware over Magic Guard. Although, I recommend using Softboiled over Moonlight, just so Sandstorm and Rain don't get in the way of your healing.
DdogTheKing, I ended up making it to the second round of the VGC Last Chance Qualifier this year before being eliminated. I just didn't have enough time to fully prepare. Next year things will be different since I have more time where I can adequately prepare.
That'd be swell, I love custom sets myself.

DdogTheKing, I've been competitively battling against others since DPP era. Before that, I still was competitive, but just didn't play against others.
Choice Band and Choice Specs simply add a multiplier when dealing damage, they don't actually raise Atk / SAtk a stage therefore it goes right through Unaware.
