“Black Bolt” and “White Flare” to Experience Severe Shortages, But TPCi Now Catching Up!

I hope this set fudging tanks zfhfzuzfzug
But really though I'm gonna dip from even trying sealed products at this point. If singles get too god damn out of control then I'll just drop the hobby for a few years until they get their shit together. Never have I ever seen such an insane shortage of product before. Idk what other card company comes close besides mtg and I think it'd be unfair comparing the two since mtg is still consistent with set printings (albeit the last few sets before final fantasy weren't too popular besides tarkir dragonstorm. Im anticipating final fantasy to cause price increases but not even remotely to the point of pokemon scalping prices). Glad I can at least get cards of Ethan before I dipped yay!!

I think the best way to combat scalpers if there was no good way to end them would be to devalue the chases by printing more of them and making it easier to pull only thing is that would affect the whole market

they'll be normalcy eventually. Then we'll have people complaining how the sets not good. The only thing that could delay this is an upcharging distro is doing, making it hard for retailers to even sell at a reasonable price. But with enough supply from pokemon and enough downward pressure distro will have to bend the knee eventually. It just takes time.
Is there any way for TPCi to compel the distributors to have regular prices and not increase them ??
Or the only 'weapon' they have is to stop working with some of them ?

Unless they completely flood the market, or give all the product to places like target that don't triple the price, it means nothing. Scalpers sell and scalp because local game stores can triple the price. They are the first person to screw you over and scalpers follow. Pokemon has to print so much that it sits on shelfs for months, that's what had to happen during covid. Printing more in small waves is just lgs doing this with the product for longer.
Don't support your lgs.
LGS are the first to screw you over? Not true. Our distros are currently offering Surging Sparks booster boxes at $225 and Prismatic ETBs at $100. So if we want product, we need to pay 3x - 4x our costs on release. And there are still some store out there, like us, who sell at MSRP.

I haven't bought any Rayquaza cards since prismatic and I don't plan to anytime soon.

A Rayquaza VMAX prize pack used to be $60, its now 126. Rayquaza TG20 used to be $30, it's now 80 bucks. In late 2024 I bought a Rayquaza ex from dragons exalted for a dollar, now its 10.

I'm currently waiting for mega evolutions to try and secure mega Rayquaza ex, but I'm not sure if everything is gonna calm down for it...

“Support your LGS” is such a nice thing to say, but my LGS is selling stuff more expensive than cardmarket. are scalpers selling on cardmarket? Maybe. Is my LGS a scalper then?
A lot of LGS are just brick and mortar scalpers.

Supporting local business is always nice until you’re overspending just to say that you are doing it. Always vote with your wallet.

In a perfect world yes, unfortunately human nature prevents this.
true… not just scalpers but if i were able to i’d wait outside a target at 6am to get stuff for myself and friends. unfortunately, unlike scalpers, i’m employed

They absolutely are the first to screw you over. You can defend yourself all you want but these are all words. People have leaked distribution price invoices and showed stores selling at triple msrp despite. Look at covid, during that big boom they did the same. So seriously, don't support your lgs until things get back to normal and they stop taking advantage of patrons.

I stopped saying that during covid when you shining fates etbs, distribution price at 25, was sold at all stores for 85 because they knew they could. Don't support your lgs. Unless of course they are doing ethical things, but good luck.

I am just saying not all LGS sell at market, some of us still sell at MSRP or lower, so they aren't all bad. You're lumping in all the market price stores (the ones who only care about money) with the MSRP (or under) stores, who try to support games. Sounds like you don't have any LGS around you that sell at MSRP, which sucks.

In my town in the UK, we have 2 LGS, one is a scummy LGS that inflates everything to market.
The one I go to only ever sells at retail (sometimes £1-£2 more to cover costs), but he also only sells highly popular items to people he knows that come and play regular, so he knows you won't scalp

So not all LGS are bad 😅

I am happy for you dude. I know I am pushing the "dont support your local game store" thing, but I am also saying support good store. We just get store owners on here saying that they are some of the good ones but they also scalp. (I know charging 3x msrp when you pay 1/2, isnt scalping but still)
