GameStop to Sell “Destined Rivals” Products for Up to 33% Above MSRP

Taking some tips from Team Rocket itself, GameStop is continuing to sell new Pokemon TCG products above TPCi's suggested retail price.

For Destined Rivals, we've learned GameStop's prices will be the following:

  • Booster Pack: $4.49 MSRP / $5.99 GS
  • Booster Bundle: $26.94 MSRP / $39.99 GS
  • Booster Box: $161.64 MSRP / $199.99 GS
  • Build and Battle Box: $21.99 MSRP / $24.99 GS
  • 3-Pack Blister: $13.99 MSRP / $18.99 GS

Most of GameStop's prices are 20% to 33% higher than MSRP. The company is clearly taking advantage of the current demand to extract more from customers.

So far Best Buy, Target, and Walmart are selling Destined Rivals for MSRP.

From late 2024 to early 2025, GameStop only sold some Pokemon TCG products above MSRP after they released. Then in February, they started to sell new products for higher upon release, as they're again doing now.

Last week GameStop announced they would limit all Pokemon TCG purchases to one per customer, except individual booster packs, which would be limited to five per customer.

Cheap. In Europe you won't find booster box cases under 1675 euro/1890 usd and booster boxes under 220 euro/250 usd.
Depends where you get your stuff but yeah it's definitely very rough out here. I wonder what they would have to do to make the pokemon economy here to be similar to how it is in the US (during the not so hype times)

People will pay those prices and they know it. Not saying it’s okay, but if people are willing to pay over 2x the price there are definitely people who will go “Eh, it’s just a few dollars more, and I can’t find it anywhere else.”

It's been 6 months of this nonsense, and I've still never bought product above MSRP in that time (thank you, local leagues, for keeping me sane with occasional pack rips). GameStop just lost a potential customer. Honestly, this is a very tone-deaf decision on their part. Shouldn't they have done this months ago? I feel like the wave of hype is finally subsiding somewhat. A lot of people are leaving the hobby right now, from what I can tell.

Wait why are we complaining? It's litterally a few dollars more. I wouldn't mind paying a few dollar more for a 3pk, regular pack, or booster bundle. We're honestly making a pretty big deal outta nothing.

I think SMPratte said it best: "no one cares about MSRP, they only want to find the lowest price possible."

If rarity rates were improved, then buying product at a higher price would be better.

They haven't, so any increases are merely a case of "it's the same, it just cost more now".

At this point, Pokémon won't make it to their 30th Anniversary.

Unfortunately, the only way to stop the current problems of the card game, from scalpers to the supply chain to Nintendo/Pokémon themselves, is to stop buying the product.
