First Look at “Play! Pokemon Prize Packs,” Now Arriving at Pokemon Leagues!

We now have our first look at the Play! Pokemon Prize Packs!

Each booster pack contains seven cards: 2x holos, 1x rare, 2x cards that can be rares and/or uncommons, 1x basic Energy card, and 1x code card. One of the holo slots can contain a Pokemon V, Pokemon VMAX, basic Energy, or Special Energy.

The packs can feature holo versions of cards that were originally non-holo, such as Switch and Drizzile, or non-holo versions of cards that were originally holo, such as Snorlax.

As posted before, Series One will contain around 200 reprinted cards. All of the cards are legal in the Standard format. TPCi has selected cards that are either tournament mainstays or popular Pokemon. All of the cards feature the Play! Pokemon stamp.

In terms of release scheduling, the booster packs for Series One will be available at Pokemon Leagues between now and February. Then starting in February, new releases will occur every six months. Series Two will release in February 2023, Series Three in August 2023, Series Four in February 2024, and so on.

Be sure to post your pulls below so we can see what cards are in this “set.”

A huge thanks goes to Stephen C. for sending us the photos for this news story!

Eh… if Stephen Chen’s report on these league packs is any indication then TPCi really needs to restructure these Play Pack sets or they need to find a way to give store-based Leagues (because apparently TPCi isn’t going to give these items to Leagues based anywhere else for some ungodly reason) more products, one pack of a 200+ card set per month simply because your league has more than 40 people attending is absurd.

All in all, I’m disappointed with TPCi when it comes to these packs. Any sane person would’ve told the person responsible for this botched “return“ to POP Packs to go back to the drawing board or blocked the idea outright due to the previous way being much better in terms of accessibility, printing “stress”, and “set” size.

These are pretty cool although it's disappointing that a lot of these are going to be rotated in a few months.
To be fair some of the early SWSH trainers have become hard to find for new players, hence the price on cards like Scoop Up Net.

so are there holo and non holo versions of every card? I ask because it looks like in those images the snorlax and energy have both. If so does that mean there's technically 400 cards in the set?

They should do what yugioh does and have the ultra rares be rarity bumps. Maybe have a unique holo design for the v's/vmax's the same way yugioh bumps cards up to ultimate rare?

We have had quire a few opened.
First of all, double hits ARE possible. Bit holo can be v as I got one
I have quite a few cards from the lost @Water Pokémon Master is there any way I can video call to help you document and prove the cards?
