Raichu, Electromagnetic Radar from ‘Night Unison!’

Raichu and Electromagnetic Radar have been revealed from SM9a Night Unison! We’d previously posted teaser information about Raichu, which this reveal now confirms. Thanks goes to tunu for the translation!

Raichu – Lightning – HP120
Stage 1 – Evolves from Pikachu

[C] Never Give Up: You can use this attack only if you have 3 or more Prize cards remaining than your opponent. Attach all [L] Energy cards from your discard pile to your Pokemon in any way you like.

[L][L][C] Head Bolt: 110 damage.

Weakness: Fighting (x2)
Resistance: Metal (-20)
Retreat: 2

Electromagnetic Radar – Trainer
Item

Discard 2 cards from your hand. If you do, search your deck for up to 2 in any combination of [L] Pokemon-GX or [L] Pokemon-EX, reveal them, and put them into your hand. Then, shuffle your deck.

You may play as many Item cards as you like during your turn (before your attack).

The mini-set will release in Japan on January 11th and will feature 55 cards.

Still no Alolan Raichu-GX…

Whoa even more electric pokemon support. Electromagnetic radar is going to be super nice for Pikachu and Zekrom/Zeraora/Tapu Koko GX decks

The problem I have with it, is that it feels like in order to get this out consistently you're either going to be using Volkner or Fairy A9. Fairy A9 means you've already Beaconed the turn before presumably, so is it really that useful? Turn one Volkner after Lele I suppose is worthwhile, if you're playing 70+ Basics (as you probably are in Lightning I suppose).

    Edit: Only GX/EX, so obviously 70+ :)

Ok they really want to push lightning to be meta. Also, if Dedenne will be lightning type that radar thing will be busted.

I wasn’t sure what to say at the time, and it seems it didn’t win. However, even though there are some clear top tier decks, after the rotation, the possibilities for what decks are viable seem much more varied now. So I wouldn’t rule out anything being able to do well! (Then again, if this was expanded, I’m unsure what all is doing well with that format.)

3 or more Prizes! That’s broken!
...than your opponent, which means your opponent has two prizes, effectively (unless you can save a 120 HP Pokémon...) so you’d better spend your energy wisely.
Electromagnetic Souped Up Electric Type Ultra Ball thingamabob: Good. In fact, the best around. The bestest of the asbestos. Useable in any Zerarora GX deck.

In the past, only Ultra Beasts have had prize-dependent effects.

Oh of course! Thinking about it now, that is pretty weird. The card might as well be nearly unplayable due to you needing to be 3+ prizes behind. At that point, you need a serious comeback.

Yes, Anaheim was an Expanded tournament.

That said, I played Metagross some post-LOT, and unfortunately it still seems to set up too slowly; but more significantly, Blacephalon hits it for weakness, so you have to play Metagross/Solgaleo in order to have any chance (which further slows it down).

Another lightning pokemon that is weak to fighting. How shocking.

With Gardy LvX, if there were 2 Pokemon with the same HP remaining, the attacker could choose which one to bring down.

Raichu is a pure lighting pokemon, fighting was the only possible weakness. That does suck tho
