Yveltal-GX from SM6 ‘Forbidden Light!’

Following right on the hoofs of Xerneas-GX, Yveltal-GX has now also been revealed from SM6 Forbidden Light! The set will release in Japan on March 2nd and in America on May 4th. Thanks goes to Michael S. and Sean T. for the translation!

Yveltal-GX – Darkness – HP180
Basic Pokemon

[D] Absorb Life: 20 damage. Heal from this Pokemon the same amount of damage you did to your opponent’s Active Pokemon.

[C][C][C] Evil Sonic: 100 damage. This attack’s damage isn’t affected by Weakness or Resistance.

[D] Death Count GX: If your opponent’s Active Pokemon has exactly 4 damage counters on it, it is Knocked Out. (You can’t use more than 1 GX attack in a game.)

When your Pokemon-GX is Knocked Out, your opponent takes 2 Prize cards.

Weakness: Lightning (x2)
Resistance: Fighting (-20)
Retreat: 2

Like our number thirteen, the number four is considered an unlucky number in Japan and China because it sounds like shi (死 – death). Japanese speakers have two readings for the number four, shi and yon. They try to avoid using the death-associated one.

Is it just me or are both Pokemon-GX pretty underwhelming? At least their rainbow rares will look pretty…

Better than mediocre at least. Maybe play it with Decidueye?

EDIT: Also TPCi might want to change the name of that GX attack, like they did with Lickilicky, Death Count seems a bit extreme especially for the young players.

    Pros:
    • Fighting Resistance
    • Lightning Weakness
    Cons:
    • Awful attacks
    • Mediocre GX
    Verdict – 1/5, pretty awful

I'm seeing different translations. The others I've seen have the GX attack saying effectively 'If the opponents active has 4 or more damage counters they are KO'd'. Big difference there. Still not a great attack but a lot better.

    NOOOO, UNPLAYABLE YVELTAL.

Tbh though that triple Colorless attack could see some odd play. I don't know this could be a decent deck tech, for decks that can't quite hit the numbers.

Xerneas (the life pokemon)- Hurts with 1st attack
Yveltal (the death pokemon)- Heals with 1st attack

    Seems legit

Sadly not that good. Tank potential with first attack is wasted.

Why not just call the second attack Shadow

It's two regular moves are ehh, but its gx move fits and sounds perfect for Yveltal and doesn't cost anything to use. However 4 damage counters is kind of odd to do exactly.

I was honestly expecting another deck staple with vague reprints
I understand making Yveltal less of a standard but did they REALLY have to nerf Creep Show AND turn it into a GX attack? It's literally a worse, Dark type Gengar

It can be a good situational card... good tech if you play rainbow energy...

I see synergy with Decidueye. Funny enough because my deck is Decidueye/Sableye.

Well, at least this time both Xerneas and Yveltal suck lol - seriously why do they even bother giving these two a GX version if they are going to be so bad. Sure, I'm totally going to play a card that gives up 2 prizes and can't contribute to my strategy in any meaningful way. They both should have been Prism Stars with some sort of utility role like Solgaleo/Darkrai/Giratina/Lunala.

Still, slightly better than Xerneas but that's not saying much.

How is the GX-attack any different from Creep Show on Breakthrough Gengar? I compared the wording of the Japanese cards, and I couldn't find any differences other than the number, obviously.

Dudes the first attack is pretty good, you make it pretty tanky in the first or second turn of the game with a choice band, too bad the second attack is extremely underwhelming and the GX needs to be as @uncleyuri described to be any good.
Potential with decidueye is low since you had a very tight deck in CIN, and now to play him you need to find space for the rainbow energy, himself, Cynthia and maybe a pal pad.
