Interview with the Champion

First place this month goes to Ramon Reyes (Doby), from San Diego! Because he is a premium member, he will be shipped 2 booster boxes by TCGplayer.com!

Here’s our interview with him:

How well are you performing in Play! Pokemon tournaments this season?

I’m currently at 192 Championship Points with my best finish being twelfth place at San Jose Regionals.

Why did you decide to participate in this tournament?

My Friend Austin had mentioned he had joined and suggested I tried it out and I did.

What deck did you play for the April TCG Cup?

Yveltal-EX / Garbodor. I used this deck because I was using a similar build for Salt Lake City Regionals and I figured it was good practice.

What kind of decks give yours trouble? Which are good matchups?

Anything with Jolteon-EX is a really bad match up for me. I really like Yveltal because it has an even matchup with most other decks in the meta and it really makes you think.

What kind of decks did you play against?

Turbo Dark, M Rayquaza-EX, Decidueye-GX / Vileplume, Vespiquen but the most memorable being Mewtwo-EX / Lunala-GX because it was very interesting and I believe the only deck I lost a match to, going 2-1 versus it.

What was your most exciting game or match?

Most exciting set was round six versus Decidueye / Vleplume and Jolteon-EX, a really tough match up for me but I was able to play around the Jolteon game one and game two I got lucky with my opponent prizing both Jolteon. I won the set 2-0.

What was your favorite card in your list?

Yveltal from BREAKthrough is very good, but it’s a close second to my favorite: Delinquent. Both cards helped me come back in games I was losing.

Would you make any changes to your deck or list?

Add one more Fright Night Yveltal.

How does Guardians Rising and affect your deck? Is it still viable?

The deck gets Choice Band and Rescue Stretcher, which I think would improve the deck. Also maybe Energy Loto, but the combination of tool removal hurting Garbodor and Tapu Koko-GX seeming very playable may hurt the viability of Yveltal-EX and Garbodor.

Congratulations, Ramon!

Here is the deck list he used to win the tournament:
