Saturday’s Nationals Update

So tired….

Here are all of the pictures I took at Nationals today. As usual, click the images to enlarge them, and use your left and right arrow keys to scroll through them like a slideshow. Each photo has a caption.

Today was the main event, and 945 players were entered in total. It seemed like there were well over 1000 people though, since there were many parents and friends in addition to the players. Pokemon was definitely the largest TCG and if you combined all of the players in the other TCGs, it probably wouldn’t even equal Pokemon’s. And people say Pokemon is dead…

Here is also a random video I took of the Piplup, Chimchar, Turtwig, and Pikachu costumes walking around the convention. Watch it for laughs.

What are those yellow and blue blobs? Hmmm... SOMEONE MURDERED PIKACHU AND PIPLUP!!! AHHH!! STUFF IS MISSING FROM THEIR BODIES!!! CALL OFFICER JENNY! The statement players have to read during deck checks. Some people doing stuff. Homeofmew is hip! Dukefirebird and his new fiancé. An announcement was made during one of the rounds that two people were just engaged; then, he gave her the surprise of her life and proposed to her in front of everyone. She accepted. I bet Ash's Turtwig can't do that. The back of the Trading Figure Game play area, with a blow-up Piplup and Majestic Dawn backgrounds. Even elves and ancient kings want to learn how to play Pokemon. More people learning the TFG... What's Chimchar looking at? o_O Blizzard's wife running the TFG area. More people learning the TFG. Life-sized version of Feraligatr's TFG figurine. Life-sized Charizard figurine. What happened next was too gruesome to post. Looking through hundreds of Pokemon cards at a dealer's booth. Another booth with someone inquiring about card prices. Another back side of the TFG area featuring Turtwig and TFG backgrounds. Pikachu, Piplup, Turtwig, and Chimchar trying out with their trainer for 'So You Think You Can Dance?' Luxray first place Nationals trophy. Second and third place trophies. Dawn ditched Ash because he was taking too long in his Sinnoh journeys. The separation is working out quite well for her, as she can compete in contests every few weeks. Kids playing Poke Ball ball. When checking match results, always remember to bring a can of Febreeze with you. PokeBeach members excited over a newborn Mime Jr. Behind this curtain is a mysterious area for staff. If you go in, you get stung apparently. Round nine Masters, first table. Round nine Masters, random table. Onlookers watching the different battles. It's so late... I'm so pooped. A judge meeting for the Junior division. A judge meeting for the Senior division. Yep, Pokemon sure is dead. And this is at 11 PM. You should have seen how packed it was in the morning. More people... Mike Liesik, head of Pokemon Organized Play, and his minion Benlugia. Magic the Gathering free play at 11 PM. Yeah, Pokemon sure is dead compared to other card games.
