Pokemon Your Career Path in the Pokémon Universe?

I was having a discussion with my friend about what we would actually do, career/occupation wise, if Pokémon were real, and I instantly said, "Pokémon trainer, easy."

His reply greatly surprised me because he really loves everything about Pokémon and isn't shy about it. He said, "I wouldn't want to be a trainer, or a breeder, or a coordinator. I wouldn't want to be a professor, or an officer. I would just travel the world offering advice on Pokémon to trainers, to the Pokémon schools, to anyone (I told him this is essentially a travelling professor, but he rebuffed the idea of being a professor) that needs it. I would only have a Charmeleon, a Croagunk, Pikachu, a Totodile and a Gogoat to ride on. They would be outside of their Pokéballs at all time because I think they would be much happier (sounds like N)."

Now I want to know what everyone else would want to do if Pokémon were real. Would you be a trainer trying to capture the most powerful Pokémon to win tournaments? A coordinator? A fitness instructor with fighting types? A ship captain with helpful water types? A teacher, or professor? A Pokémon doctor (not a Nurse Joy!)? Gym leader?

Being a trainer is the easiest choice, obviously, but really think about it because, just like the real world, not everyone can be the superstar athlete, or famous rockstar. There are real jobs that are needed to help humanity and Pokémon prosper.

Edit: please also include the Pokémon you would use in your career and why.

RE: What career path would you choose in the Pokémon Universe?

I would totally be a Swimmer! The Swimmers in the game actually have a decent selection of Water-Pokemon and sometimes Pokemon that aren't even Water-Type, since a lot of Pokemon can learn Water-Type attacks. This would be me in real life:

Swimmer♂ Sam (My Name)
- Dewgong
- Lotad
- Blastoise
- Castform
- Whiscash
- Wailord

I love my rainy team! They're all so cute! So anyway, this is what my occupation and team would be. Sure I wouldn't have a fancy socialite house, but who needs one when there's a whole new world of ocean out there, and a small island with a tropical hut. I'd play with them and they'd Surf me back to "Teh Hut" if I got exhausted. They'd also be my very best friends :D!

Chomp, thanks, I love you for making this thread. :3

I'd be a Pokemon actor, like Brycen. And at the same time a gym leader, JUST like Brycen. I'd have my beloved Ludicolo with me all the time and I'd make lotsa moneeh with mah Pokestar movies and make my gym cooler and give some to charity. Similiar to my real job, which is voice acting.

What kind of gym? Water or Grass? Which gym leader would you replace/team up with?

I updated the initial post asking what Pokémon you would use to aid you in your career and why.

Just kidding, of course.

Maybe there's no need to replace any existent gyms, remember that regions have more than the 8 gyms shown in the games, also cities, professors, etc.

I'd be a pokemon professor (well, duh) specializing in pokemon psychology. After traveling through hoenn, kanto and johto, gathering and training a lot of pokemon, assisting university and doing field work and thesis in sinnoh, I'd settle with my pokemon in a lab to do sciency stuff, give starters and hang out with all the cool kids: profs. oak (a teacher in college), elm, birch (gave me my pokedex; not my pokemon), juniper (because she's the best), rowan (helped me with thesis), hale (it's the pokemon answer to indiana jones, therefore awesome), the gym leaders, E4 and more.
I'd use my beloved gardevoir (my starter, thankyouverymuch) to set telepathic links with pokemon, trying to understand their psyche, and evaluate if they are sentient just like humans, or like animals, or at an entirely different degree.

RE: What career path would you choose in the Pokémon Universe?

I would be a trainer. And i would win badges. But not with the especific goal of winning the Pokemon League. Just to train my Pokemon. The same with the PL. However, i would form a large group called the Black Fang (Inspired from another game).

I would challenge strong trainers to be the strongest in the gang, and i would put the four strongest trainers with a higher rank called the four fangs. I'd add commanders, trainers that rise above the others as well.

The mission of that gang is to fight against the hunters, criminals and every evildoers that use pokemon for bad things, harming the poor creatures or third persons. It doesn't matter what kind of people, from thieves, to the president. The team would train very hard to become a powerful force that even the police would love to count with as support.

Though not an original idea, since that team exists in Fire Emblem. A gang that killed lords, marquees and kings that abused of their power, or fought bandits. It would be quite good to have it in a Pokemon world. And probably a lot of trainers would want to join.

RE: What career path would you choose in the Pokémon Universe?

I would want to be a bounty hunter. Using my team of pokemon to help catch them bad guys

RE: What career path would you choose in the Pokémon Universe?

I would love to be a Pokémon Paleontologist! I actually really wanted to be a regular paleontologist when I was younger, since I love studying fossils and ancient animals. In the Pokémon world, it would be even more exciting since the Pokémon fossils would be brought back to life, so I could be a specialist about fossils and the revived Pokémon. I could see myself traveling around to various regions to help with fossil excavations, and also giving advice to trainers on taking care of their revived Pokémon.

My Pokémon would all be revived fossils, of course! :D I think I would like a team of my favourites: Omanyte, Cranidos, Cradily, and Aerodactyl.

RE: What career path would you choose in the Pokémon Universe?

I'd be an assistant researcher.
I'd help the professor with research/fieldwork etc, but my predominant area of study would be Mega Evolution; this would encompass everything about it - how Mega Stones are made, why they're specific to only one Pokemon etc.
I'd work in a small area next to the prof's Lab, and of course fieldwork and stuff in the field.
I'd catch many different Pokemon for Mega Evolution tests, but my predominant team would be:
-Frogadier which would stay out of it's Pokeball and walk around with me
-Helioptile which would stay on my shoulder
-Arcanine
-Kadabra

edit: changed my post

I wouldn't strand to far from your friends choice in some points. Just look at my profile picture and one can get the answer: I would be a Ranger. I would only use Grass-type Pokémon, take care of the environment and injured and abused Pokémon. I would travel the world, meeting new Pokémon (namely Grass type ones) and trying to find greener solutions for the world while promoting Pokémon and people cooperation but, since I almost totally agree with original Plasma's goals, I would keep "my" Pokémon outside of their balls and think of it as true partners. I would also raise awareness to the ridiculousness of Musicals and Contests and try to diminish battles while searching for a way to complete abolish Elite Four...

Oh, I would mostly required the help of:
Venusaur (my favorite Pokémon and its spores could easily solve problems);
Exeggutor (its psychic powers might be life saving);
Shiftry/Simisage (agility on tree tops...Sceptile and Tangrowth also might be options);
Tropius (it could help fast transport injured or sick Pokémon and if the need arises, me (I would prefer to walk or using some green-powered mechanical transport);
Ferrothorn (because of its defense);
Last, but not least, Ludicolo (a water type Pokémon is always useful for crossing water and extinguish fires).
Since Cacturne, Maractus and Abomasnow might be a problem because wouldn't stand too hot or too cold weather in some areas, I would only rely on them if on the desert or snow (and take special care of not getting the others injured...)
Rotating Pokémon: the leader would always have to be a starter (the Pokémon that I bond the most) and according to the situation at hand. The other five could include Victreebel, Breloom, Cradily, Carnivine, Leafeon or Sawsbuck.
In Ranger's HQ (perhaps near Fortree and my own house would be in Verdanturf) and branches across regions, for taking care of the Pokémon I would use all the rest: Bellosom, Vileplume, Roserade, Sunflora, Cherrim, Lilligant, Whimsicott, Leavanny, Wormadan, Parasect and Amoonguss.

PS: my desire would be to meet Virizion...

RE: What career path would you choose in the Pokémon Universe?

Well, I'd be a gym leader, steel type (7th in the region). My team is Registeel, Metang, Klinklang, and Scizor. Outside of gym battles I'd also have a Zoroark and Porygon-2 on me. My other Pokemon that I can rotate in are my Lucario, Ferrothorn, Helioptile, Emboar, Zwelious, and Ampharos. My gym would be next to a factory where Porygon are created. My two biggest goals are to catch the remaning Regis, and to investigate Braun Cave. Rumor has it that Braun Cave contains a shiny Metang.

A quick note: I got Registeel because I tricked an evil team. Registeel was being chased around town by the evil team trying to get it. I sent out my klinklang (klang at the time), and used thunder wave on registeel. It stopped, forcing the evil team to run into a living piece of iron They all went down at once. Then, I threw an ultra ball at Registeel. It broke out, but 2 ultra balls later it was mine.

When the evil guys regained concisness, I told them that Registeel had headed for the wavy desert, named for the hills in the desert. They went off, and I never saw them again.

RE: What career path would you choose in the Pokémon Universe?

For some reason I'd think it'd be really fun to be the mom of a trainer. Probably a minority here. I'd be a retired trainer myself. With a Hitmonlee, a Vaporeon, an Arcanine, an Abra, a Ditto, and a shiny Pidgeot. I'd travel a lot and try new things. Hang out with old rivals occasionally and we'd brag about our kids.

RE: What career path would you choose in the Pokémon Universe?

Because of my Native American beliefs, I would travel the lands according to said beliefs using Pokémon with such characteristics:

-Xatu (Totems)
-Sigilyph (Kachina, Nazca Lines)
-Bouffalant (Buffalo important in Native Cultures)
-Braviary (Eagle also very important, feathers resemble Headress)
-Also, Flygon, because it has for some reason always reminded me of this theme.

-In addition to them, I would like to befriend the Therian Formes of the kami trio ( because of the S. American myth influence)

Otherwise, I would like to be an elite Trainer primarily using Pokémon who incorporate blades:

-Cobalion (who could also be above since he protects nature)
-Haxorus
-Gallade
-Aegislash (literally a sword)
-Haunter (just because)
-Talonflame (who I actually made a very similar design and name for 3 years ago (body markings and tail a bit different, name was Fireclaw - yes I know it was a bad name))

RE: What career path would you choose in the Pokémon Universe?

What a neat thread. Thinking about it, I would choose to be a traveler. It would be a great experience venturing the regions known, and not known as of yet and getting to see the beauty of the nature of it all as well as the Pokemon there. As for the Pokemon I would choose to take with me, I know for sure I would take my favorite, Druddigon, along. Other than that, I think Tropius, Carracosta, Zebstrika, and Charmeleon would be suitable to come along too. Tropius, for flying and the occasional fruit snack it provides. Carracosta for keeping the team cooled off, surfing, and things of that nature. Zebstrika for faster travels and because I love it. Charmeleon for warmth when necessary, and whenever fire is suitable.

RE: What career path would you choose in the Pokémon Universe?

I'm not trying to be mean or rude but it's kinda funny how some people are saying "I would be" like you could just snap your fingers and be what you desire. I know it's just a fantasy but it would make more sense to say "I would aspire" or something of the sorts. Like @Inferchomp said, it's not like everyone could be "the very best like no one ever was". :p Being a Professor requires a degree (I suppose) and field training. There would be a lot of competition to be a Gym Leader or even a member of the Elite Four, some of them probably being better than you... And chances that you would meet Legendaries are pretty low, even more having them on your team but I guess I'm being too rational and realistic. ^^'
Like in real life, I would like to pursue either acting or modeling, ideally both. And the Pokémon I would have would be mostly for company and for some occasional match-ups. I could also apply to some competitions from time to time. I mean, only if they wanted, I don't like to sound like PETA but it would kill me having my Pokémon hurt because of me. :(
I don't really have a favorite Pokémon so I guess it would depend of their personalities and our bonding and all that. And I would also prefer to let them be outside their Pokéballs. By the way, is there any "Poké-law" that forbids you to carry more than just six Pokémon? xD I mean, just for companion purposes, not competitively.

And sorry, I wasn't trying to sound negative with my post... I was just blending real life with Pokémon.

I guess I need to lighten up a bit! :rolleyes:

RE: What career path would you choose in the Pokémon Universe?

I'd be a rancher/breeder, who dabbles in battling. My team would consist of Pokemon that help me on the ranch.

Absol - It would predict when a storm or tornado is approaching. It could also assist in reaping the crops with its horn-scythe thing.

Growlithe - To help round up the herds at the end of the day, and to start a fire when necessary.

Bouffalant - The "workhorse" of the crew, used to till land, haul loads, etc.

Blissey - Nurtures the sick Pokemon on the ranch.

Ampharos - Used when I need a lot of light at night.

Braviary - I need a regal flying type to take me to town when I need supplies!
