Help What just happened. (PCGO)

I was playing online and I used Absol's doom news, then a Greeninja used shadow stitching and it seem to cancel out Absol's effect. This isn't right is it?
 
No he didn't, I was surprised he didn't because I did the move so he would retreat and he sent me a smiley face after his turn was done like he knew it wouldn't work.
 
Did he evolve I'm pretty sure that removes the effect as well otherwise unless he rangered or guzma' d it's a glitch you should report
 
Evolving does remove the effect. If my memory does serve me right I did it when he was a Greeninja Break but I'm starting to doubt myself.
