Ruling snipers

I love playing Empoleon X as a sniper. It can kill benched Stage 1s, then next turn retreat for another Empoleon

Magmortar LvX has the best sniping damage output by far, but there are a lot of Water decks running around now. Jimmy Ballard began Magmortar's descent by figuring out a killer Gyarados MT combo, Glaceon has just entered the scene and will see a lot of play, and Empoleon will be making a comeback with the new MD versions of his line. It's going to be very hard to win anymore with Magmortar. If you dare to run Magmortar now, you better have 4 Holon FF to go along with him, and a way to get rid of Lake Boundary.

Empoleon is probably the sniper of choice now that MD is out. Empoleon LvX can snipe almost as good as Magmortar LvX, but the attack has the bad side effect of making Empoleon unable to attack next turn. So you need two of them or a way to switch twice in order to maximize the damage output.

Tangrowth GE + Sceptile GE makes for a nasty sniper combo as well.

What about Salemence SW? Can't it snipe for 100 for 2 basic waters? The only downfall it has is that it need 2 of the same basics. Need lots of Bebe's!

Salamence SW is a lovely sniper (a bit like magmortar). Chairman Kaga, Sceptile GE+Tangrowth doesn't work because Sceptile makes each G energy card 2 G energy, not G energy cards. Tangrowth's attack says it needs energy cards. Tangrowth is a nice tech in a Leafeon Lv.X/Sceptile deck though.

Tangrowth has an errata.

Tangrowth (Diamond & Pearl—Great Encounters, #10)
Power Whip
Choose 1 of your opponent's Pokémon. This attack does 10 damage for each Energy from basic Energy cards attached to Tangrowth to that Pokémon. (Don't apply Weakness and Resistance for Benched Pokémon.)

It most certainly does combo with Sceptile.
