Scarf dat Smeargle?

Ok, so a few days ago I set out to *try* making a FEAR team suitable for doubles. Though I don't think it will end up well, I still need to ask this question: Should I give my smeargle a choice scarf? The goal of smeargle is to spore one of the opponent's Pokemon so that my FEAR can use its Sash/Sturdy to stay alive. So all it theoretically has to do is outspeed one of the two opponents. I plan to maximally invest in smeargle's speed, leaving it in the 130s. Here's the pros/cons imo:

Pros of Scarf:
As good as 100% guarantee of putting an opponent to sleep.

Cons:
Likely to be OHKOed.
Without the scarf, Smeargle could use rapid spin and a status-clearing move.
Lower chance of outspeeding opponents.

Smeargle is still going to die against any strong priority attack (Bullet Punch, Extremespeed, Vacuum Wave) and priority Taunt from things like Sableye. Not to mention a plethora of other Pokemon that would also be holding a Choice Scarf... Unless you're trying to stay in a low tier, Breloom is a far better option for the same task.

FEAR doesn't work in doubles. If you want a real gimmick, try Super Fang/Brine instead!
