A couple of recent changes have taken place staff and policy wise over the past week. In this post I will detail them.

Verified Seller userbars are now fixed back in place. Previously there was going to be a sort of replacement for these, but that ended up not working out. If you are a verified seller and do not have a userbar right now, please contact me, [smod]omahanime[/smod], or [smod]King Arceus[/smod]. We'll make sure you are listed and get your userbar reinstated right away.

The other update is that Contributors are now an official staff group. Previously, we had been testing the waters with this staff group, (a beta, if you will) making sure it will be a worthwhile addition. We are proud to announce the addition of the Contributor userbar. The Contributors are problem solvers and people who want to move PB forward. They do exceptionally well through articles, organizing, programming, know-how, or anything else that would allow us to explore other avenues of content. Contributors are the "skunk works" of PB. For those that don't know what a skunk works it is "A small group of people who work on projects in an unconventional way. The purpose is to quickly develop something with minimal constraints from upper management. They are often utilized to initially roll out a product or service that will be developed to usual processes."

Working closely with our contributors, we hope to roll out even more content and forum goodness over the next year. If you are interested in any kind of a Contributor position, you'll need to follow the steps that apply to you below:

- Previous Moderators or Super Moderators: PM [smod]Shining Raikou[/smod] and express interest. Must be in good standing with PB (This means the reason for your departure from the staff was not a demotion, and you did not leave in a negative way). Additionally, any previous staff becoming a contributor must be active in the forums, have know how, and a drive to help out. There will be a brief screening process.
- Members, no previous staff experience: Apply with [smod]Shining Raikou[/smod] via PM or email. Show him examples of your work (A resume of sorts). The more details about your work, the better. This may lead to an interview. We are currently interested in programmers (who know mainly PHP - AJAX, or MySQL is good too), article writers, and audio/video specialists. Other talents or specialties are welcome to apply as well, but the spots may be already filled or not needed. You'll get a reply to any resumes you send in to me. If your resume is focused on TCG or VG, the appropriate staff department heads will be notified of your application.
- Non Members: If you are reading this and have not yet registered an account, we are open to your applications as well. You'll need to register an account first of course. Follow the steps for members above in order to apply. Previous experience with forums is desirable (staff positions or similar experience). It is advised that you familiarize yourself with PB forums and become a "regular" before applying for any kind of staff position though.

This information will be placed in a new sticky or in the Rules & Info thread soon for future reference. If there are any questions, please feel free to ask.

Thanks for reading!

So Ex-Staff members must be contacted by you, not apply, or announce our interest?

And just out of curiosity, is it just worded a bit oddly or is the rule "Additionally, any previous staff becoming a contributor must be active in the forums, have know how, and a drive to help out." a different rule for non-members? (Only being recommended to become active first)

Haha, that clears things up a bit, SR. Anyways, I'm very happy to see contributors recognized for the work they do, and I hope to see a lot of new stuff implemented in the forum as a result from that work.

Fixed the wording a bit. Let me clarify. I basically don't want to discourage lurkers from becoming involved in the forum. If they become a member, become active citizens of PokeBeach, have other internet forum experience (staff position preffered), and have a really good resume I don't see why we wouldn't consider them. The reason I worded it differently for staff is because they don't have to submit a resume. The resume from a member would give us an idea of their know how and drive.

Ah ok, thanks for clarifying. I'm glad contributors are getting recognition for their hard work :)

The other update is that Contributors are now an official staff group.
I thought they were already informally classified as Junior Mods, but okay. They basically act like them - do all the small bits that result in an almost-thankless job. But they're good people.

Unfortunately they still don't show up on the Forum Team list, but eh, now we know who they are.

As far as "article writers" go, what kind of content is expected to be written? I've only been in the competitive scene (TCG) for about a year, but I'd be interested in the position.

If anyone could give me some more info, I'd appreciate it!

If the forums ran on C++, I would love to see the source code and take a crack at it, but those have to be some crazy libraries to be able to call SQL commands. XD

Examples would be writing an in depth analysis of a new card set, metagame, etc. For more info about what help is needed in TCG, you can PM [smod]Celebi23[/smod].

They are not policy enforcers. It's exactly as I described in the OP. Also, you could say all staff positions are "almost-thankless" jobs. It's all for the good of the forum though, it's not to our benefit.

I will consider adding a list to the Forum Team, would make updating easier.

I just wish they would allow Javascript >.>
Javascript is used; just open the page source. However, JS is too shallow for a forum, as it can't directly access databases. That's left for PHP/SQL.

I've never done AJAX before, though. :<

I could try for an Article Writer Position I guess. Well, for writing about new sets, anyway.

jQuery can, but I've never used jQuery. Allowing JavaScript in messages would be too dangerous.

Yeah, I guess so. When I said it was a thankless job, I said it more in the sense of "the general public might not necessarily know who these people (contributors) are". I mean, everyone knows who the mods are due to the fancy name badges; we didn't know who the contributors were at-a-glance unless we went to look at the list in the Hierarchy Thread. Now we can tell at a glance. (Honestly, I didn't know Dark Void and Zyflair were still contributors until now.)

It probably wasn't the best word for me to use, but it was the first one that came to mind.
