I want to know, how did they chose those Pokemon name...
like, Ekans from Snake and Arbok from Kobra...

and why they chose Psyduck and Golduck? I think name 'Golduck' is fit better for Psyduck (because its color is yellow, like a gold :) ) and name 'Psyduck' is fit better for Golduck (because Golduck has psychic ability, right?)

how about these name:
Kyogre, Groudon, Rayquaza, Jirachi, etc?

Aggron = Aggresive Iron?
I wonder...

Rayquaza, Kyogre, Groudon, Jirachi... Japanese names, japanese meanings. Can't remember off the top of my head... but Rayquaza I think originates from "Rekku" (violent sky) "Ouzan" (throne) and something else. Zan (to behead).

Edit: fixed.

hmmm...so those legendary name is taken from its japanese name...
thanx for those infos!
how about Lucario? I can't find a word that fit the name...

then why it called Golduck?
I think Psychic Duck fit best with Golduck (for its 'third eye') ^^

how about Mew?

I think 1st generation pokemon name are easy to guess from where it came...
but next generation name are hard to guess (IMO)...

Ralts? Kirlia?

note: above Pokedex link doesn't work here... TxT
why.... I think my computer error...

The reverse-spelling of "dragoon"... some sense could be made out of that. In Japanese, it'd be ドラグーン "doraguun", and if you remove the ー line extension and the ン "n", then reverse it, it'd be グラド "gurado". Palette also says it's based off the reverse-spelling of "dragon". Again, ドラゴン "doragon", remove the ン "n", reverse, and you have ゴラド "gorado". The last thing Palette mentions is "dosu", the Japanese sound effect for acting violently.
Omastar was originally called Kargo.
Omanyte is derived from a fossil which is called "Omanyte". You mean Ammonite..

I think torchic is Torch + Chick

Kadabra is known as pocus. I got a few of those one day about 5 years ago when I printed cheats for my sisters blue vesion and 162 pages to be exact.:)

then cast form came from forcast, and transform....
voltorb, an orb is a ball and volt=electric.
dunno if it was posted yet tho.

Search a Pokemon in wikipedia. 90% of the time you can find where it got its name. For example, Girafarig is a palindrome, (spelled same front to back) because it looks the same front to back. (you know, 2 heads.... one normal, one psychic, so normal/psychic type....)
