PokéPoetry! #8

Hello, PokéBeach writers, it's time for poetry to make a comeback! We are excited to introduce a familiar contest - one that we've been doing for about a year! You may be asking "what are the rules?" or "how long do we have?" Some might be wondering what we're doing poetry on! Well, scroll on down and sign up for another exhilarating contest!

Rules

I. You must reserve a post in this thread, detailing your chosen style of poetry. Example:

Code:
Username: William Shakespeare
Chosen style: Sonnet (Iambic Pentameter)

II. Once we acquire the list of names from your reserved posts, we will RANDOMLY assign a Pokémon with which you will create your freestyle poem.
  • Your poem must at least contain five lines to be accepted, with the sole exception being a haiku.
  • You must write your poem about that assigned Pokemon (you may not request for a change). Failure to do so will result in a disqualification.
  • Be descriptive and creative! Don't be afraid to try something new.

III. Don't plagiarize; any instances of plagiarism will result in a disqualification from the contest and a ban.

IV. You will be able to choose up to three of your favorite poems during the judging phase. You will be able to either "like" the contestant's post or send a PM to [staff]Fancy[/staff] with the name(s) of the contestant('s)/poem's title. Anyone can vote, not just contestants! All members of PokéBeach are encouraged to take part in the voting process.

V. You may edit your poem until the voting phase begins. You may edit your style at any time before the sign up phase is over! We only request that you update us so we can update the thread accordingly.

VI. Please make sure you use proper spelling and grammar! Poems that fail to reflect this will be disqualified.

This contest will be very relaxed, and you will be given the opportunity to write your poem in any way you desire. For example, if you are assigned a dark, gloomy Pokemon like Mismagius, you are free to make your poem reflect upon that Pokemon's nature and type, or you may completely surprise us and write the complete opposite and incorporate the positives and playfulness of Mismagius. It's all up to you! A few examples of the types of poetry are as follows:
  • Free Verse
  • Blank Verse
  • Haiku
  • Sonnet
  • Epic
  • Limerick
  • Song (duh!)
And many, many more... (Google's your friend)

Important Dates

11/1 - Sign Ups begin.

11/6 - Sign Ups end and Pokémon are assigned.

11/15 - Entries are due and voting begins.

11/19 - Voting ends and winners are announced!

If a poem here really catches your fancy, feel free to let that author know in the thread. A few words can go a long way.

Magnetic Cries
Slowly but surely, the stone moves.
The eyes glare deep within the soul of the prey,
bringing forth a closer bond for a response from beyond.

The mustache moves from under the red nose, getting ready to enclose what it chose.
Yet, the bond fails to embalm the surroundings of the one from beyond.
The magnets arise, calming those cries.

Love the new banner! :D

Deep Inside The Dark Woods

A trainer not ready for the battle he fought,
Enters the woods; lost in thought.

He and his partner tremble with fear,
Malicious Grass Pokémon are oh so near.

Running. Faster. He must get away.
This forest, so dangerous, he cannot stay.

Scary noises from behind every tree,
Scouting every direction but not a single path to see.

Just when the trainer’s hope was almost gone,
He found a tiny cute Grass Pokémon.

The forest was his home, he knew exactly where to go,
So the trainer and his partner followed this petite-sized hero.

This adventure gave them a new friend,
Who decided to stick with them to the end.

Training and battling with all his might,
This little hero quickly learned to fight.

The gym that once seemed impossible to beat,
Has now finally experienced defeat.

This poem is about a trainer and his Mudkip (that's why they fear Grass-types) who decided to challenge Norman before they were ready and hadn't traveled through other cities in Hoenn first. He found a new friend, Shroomish, in Petalburg woods. It would eventually learn how to "fight" (evolve into a Fighting-type), which gave them the advantage against Norman and got them the win. :D

You're going down, Drohn! :D What have I gotten myself into!? Posting early since I'm leaving early.

Beware of Spinda

They say no two Spinda have the same pattern of spots
Though the chances are actually not zero.
One in four billion, while not exactly a lot
Defines a key trait of this hero.

A hero, you say, cannot be this bear,
Whose walk is rather unsteady.
However, it's the truth, I swear!
You should truly fear this teddy.

Spinda teeters and totters for hours each day
To confusingly kill its rivals.
For causing confusion is how it will slay
Anything threatening its survival.

Beware of this spotted hero, for it’s a cold, heartless assassin,
Though dancing along to its teetering song will give you some needed compassion.

This should be interesting.

I have changed my style. Please inform me if this is allowed.

RE: PokéPoetry! VIII

I don't see why it wouldn't be since Sign-Ups haven't ended yet; your change has been noted. Looking forward to your poem.

RE: PokéPoetry! VIII (Sign Ups)

Edited the OP with information detailing the style changes. Thanks, Omega Soul! As long as you let one of us know you changed it (so that we can fix the OP), I don't think it should be a problem if you change styles before the assigning. Two more days, guys!

RE: PokéPoetry! VIII (Currently Underway!)

I sorta forgot about this a bit. Swadloon's cute though! I'm feeling dark, so let's see what I can do...
Abandoned on the forest floor,
will to live a life no more,
left to find a coat that will
protect her from the wind and chill.

Swadloon was a caring girl,
before her life began to curl,
her heart and soul were left behind
when all her memories aligned.

The leaf was lost when she was born,
the kindness in her heart was torn,
when love and passion went away
and left her on that leaf that day.

Independence is a thing,
which isn't up to one to spring,
upon a poor defenseless bug
which longs for only one deep hug.

She asked for help from so many,
but deigned to gain a mere penny,
trundling lonesome cross the floor
with life a misery and bore.

Until one day she found a guide,
someone in which she confide,
who led her to beneath the bridge
and kissed her, though only a smidge.

In that moment she is told,
white light came out and she evolved,
compassion was all that she needed
to further her new life unheeded.

This guide she learnt was called Shiftry,
a stunning fellow you'd agree,
but darkness dwelt within his heart
and trickery his favourite art.

He forced Swadloon under his oath,
promising riches life and growth,
a coat was made for protection
with patterns lining every section.

This evil the coat was meant to repel,
was putting Swadloon under a spell,
relationships began to spring
as well as darkness from within.

The two Grass-Types they made a vow,
for neither to leave and to endow,
their love into each other's brains
leaving Swadloon locked in chains.

With dependence on this Shiftry,
Swadloon thought her life was nifty,
until she fell prisoner to crime
and her life ran out of time.

In her sleep her coat was ripped,
her small unconscious body stripped,
and she was left a lifeless shell
with only evil to expel.

Her partner ran and out of spite,
she cast her former friends to blight,
when friends can live or love no longer
the darkness in her heart grows stronger.

Finally she found her leaf,
the one that caused all of this grief,
but the leaf was torn and tattered
while Swadloon lay there dry and shattered.

And this is where this story ends,
where it started through some bends,
a story full of isolation
a problem spread throughout the nation.

I've actually done a load of abstract references in this poem (so lots of the major things represent real things in modern culture) so I'll be interested to see if any of you interpret it how I'm meaning for it to be interpreted. Probably not since I'm not that great at poetry but still! >_<

(also I covered some fairly mature topics in a completely child-friendly manner which I'm a bit proud of o3o)
