Contest PokéBeach Create-A-Card: March 2018 - Luck ~ Both Portions Up!

Okay, here's my entry:

Hope it's not too op. Lol.

Anyways, here's my entry: (provided I'm in the competition at all)
Quagsire-Water-HP110
Stage 1-Evolves from Wooper

[C] Blue Moon
Put an Item card from your discard pile into your hand. Whenever you flip a coin during your next turn, treat it as heads.

[W][C] Splash Away 30
Switch this Pokemon with 1 of your Benched Pokemon.

Weakness: Grass (x2)
Resistance: None
Retreat: [C] [C] [C]
The main inspiration for this card comes from the 11th episode in the Johto Journeys season of the Pokemon Anime, "Once in a Blue Moon". During this episode, a Quagsire steals Ash's GS Ball along with many other items. The items then sail back along the river, and the person who gets their item back last (Ash in this case, obviously) is supposed to be blessed with good luck. I tried to recreate this idea into a Pokemon card. The "Put an Item card from your discard pile into your hand" effect comes from the items sailing back down the river, and the auto-heads effect shows the good luck the trainer gets by having their Item come back last.
The other attack, Splash Away, reflects the speed with which Quagsire gets away having stolen the GS Ball.
I hope you enjoy this rather unique take on luck in Pokemon!

Does this mean we can edit our entries?
ONLY if it's related to changing a coin flip to a "luck" effect?
No, you wouldn't be able to edit your entry without incurring a penalty. Those who posted their entries before I said that the theme might become less restrictive will have that opportunity, and I will be privately messaging them the details.

Hi, can I still sign up for text?
I wanna join for text :)

Edit: Oh I think I'm too late. I'll join image instead.
Gekki did in fact take the last spot for text-based, so it's now full unfortunately. If you're up for it Zero, you might like to take a shot at the image-based portion? We have a tutorial to make learning easier, which you can find here. Whismur, I've put you down for image.

I entered but I'm not on the list of participants. Why is this?
Looks like I missed your sign-up post! No biggy - you're listed in the competition now.

Thanks, but I don’t think I can do image based fakes at the moment. Many next time. :)

No offence Zero Umbreon, but I personally think you are being way too hard on yourself when it comes to image-based fakes. If you make an error, the guys on here will point you in the right direction.

Giratina - [P] - HP 130
Basic

[C][C] Dragon Claw 80

[P][P][P] Other Dimensionly Call
Open a Sun and Moon Ultra Prism Booster Pack.
If there is a Giratina <> in it, you win the game.

A Pokémon that is said to live in a world on the reverse side of ours. It appears in an ancient cemetery.

Weakness:
Resistance:
Retreat Cost: [C][C][C]

Duskull - Psychic - HP60
Basic

【 Ability: Reaping Clutch 】
When you play this Pokémon from your hand onto your Bench during your turn, you may have each player shuffle their hand into their deck. Then, you and your opponent play "Rock-Paper-Scissors." The player who wins draws 6 cards. The player who loses draws 3 cards. (You draw your cards first.)

[P] Cries for Forgiveness 10x
Reveal cards from the top of your deck until you reveal a Duskull, Dusclops, or Dusknoir. Put it into your hand. This attack does 10 damage times the amount of Pokémon revealed in this way. Shuffle the other cards back into your deck.

Weakness: [D] x2
Resistance: [F] -20
Retreat: [C]

Pokédex Entry: It loves the crying of children. It startles bad kids by passing through walls and making them cry.

Thoughts:
With the theme of Luck being passed around for this month, I thought of interesting ways I could include that in my entry. The most obvious idea was "Flip a coin, and have an effect happen", and that wasn't very interesting to me. I've stated in my February 2018 entry that I want to use Create-A-Card to make something unique and different from the creation of the crowd. As for the creative process of this one...
I wanted to branch out of using the basis of abilities and lore from the video games for this enty, and instead wanted to focus my entry on interesting mechanics that can be considered luck based, but can be weighed either through mind-games, (Reaping Clutch) or playing cards to re-order your deck (Cries for Forgiveness) to give my entry an interesting feel of "Luck-based but not quite", almost as if you're deviously bribing a casino to let you win more money.
Believe it or not, this concept actually came from Team Galactic's Wager from Mysterious Treasures, of all cards. I thought it would be fun to bring this fun effect of Rock-Paper-Scissors into the current format since, to my knowledge, we haven't had a card that does this since.

I don't think this entry is better than January's, but I'm hoping it's better than February's, as I'm learning and improving from critique and judging the best I can. Even if the references are a bit obvious, I hope its creativity and bending of the rules of the theme makes for a genuinely interesting, unique, and fun take on the luck-based side of the game. As an unrelated side note, I'm also still working on the prettiest way to format my faking, so if this is inconsistent with the other two, that's why. I think this was format nicely and was pretty to look at.

Just needed sample text for activation clause on Reaping Clutch, as well as a possible guideline as to how shuffling in a hand from the effect of an ability would work.

Team Galactic's Wager [Diamond and Pearl: Mysterious Treasures - 115/123]
Checking the proper wording for a Rock-Paper-Scissors mechanic, especially with the wording on winning/losing, card draw, and the first draw clause at the end.

Random Receiver [Black and White: Dark Explorers - 99/101]
Practically the entire mechanic for Cries for Forgiveness. Certain checks with wording on placing the searched card into your hand, and the correct order for wording to be explained.

I look forward to the judge's thoughts on my creation!

Nice design. My first thought is to run it with nothing to find in your deck. 580 damage for [P]

It's a problem with creating any attack that bases off revealing cards. While 580 isn't the max, a number that high is based off building your deck in a completely ridiculous way, in a completely ridiculous board state. I'll state for balancing purposes that this does not hurt the balance of the card, as you'll be unable to set your board like this in a real game, and considering the board position required, impossible to keep the game running and lose after this one move.
Is it theoretically possible? Yes.
Should it ever be considered for balancing purposes? No.

580 also isn't possible with it, unless you already have taken 6 prize cards. Otherwise, it is still a 60hp Pokemon

Heh, I was being over the top for comedy's sake, don't sweat it (although I had forgotten about prizes).

But I would definitely use this on it's own given the option. You could hit 70-150 pretty reliably before tools for just one [P] and a few recycling options that most decks play anyway. It would be a one-of drop-in to some other strategy, not the main event. I think you need an extra clause here, to discard the pokemon you reveal maybe? Although that's going too far the other direction then.

I like it though, a lot. I'm being hypercritical which is a good thing because it means I'm looking at it as a real card and wondering how I can make it work.

Or you know broken when you see it. ;)

It is absolutely OP, put two in your deck. If the other one is in your hand you will obviously never find it and ohko everything, every time. Once it dies just use one of the 5 million recovery cards to get it back, Duskull is only searching for itself so it doesn't matter what else you put in, as long as you have an energy you're back to one-shotting the world :)

If you go second, you will win every time unless you get blocked somehow.

Glad to see a lot of image-based this time around, though I am kinda sad to see that most are GX ;/ I'll post my entry at some point... I'd needed to check some wording issues but I think I might just scrap the idea and start again.

I'd like to join image!
Sorry I had a crazy amount of extra work last month and was too exhausted to make an entry, but I think I can do this one no problem

DoubleAACE's switch means that there's now a text-based portion spot up-for-grabs!
