Energy: 12
  • 4 Water Energy
  • 8 Lightning Energy
[EDIT NOTES]

- Removed 1 Ultra Ball
- Removed 4 Puzzle of Time
- Removed 4 DDE
- Added 2 Clemont
- Added 2 Level Ball
- Added 1 Xerosic
- Added 4 Water Energy

I'd like to keep the 4 Trainers Mail in the deck, I feel they are currently the best item cards in the game and they speed up the deck significantly. I've added 2 Clemont because they will be crucial to the deck if I have them in and I need to know it is not prized.

I am considering running 4x Compressor and 2x Fisherman for easy Supporter (using VS) and Energy Retrieval (Using the Fisherman/Super Rod) - it may speed up the deck. I would have to remove both Professor's Letter and the two added Level Balls, as well as the Energy Pouches or Float Stones to do this, but once the set is released I will be able to toy with the idea in a lot more detail. The main goal of this deck is to have as high a chance as possible to hit critical mass on one Kingdra on my second turn and I'm trying to find out the most efficient way of doing it.

Strategy:

- Take first turn and aim for (your) turn 2 Kingdra with Water + 3x Lightning Energy - Draw power from Shaymin/N/Sycamore ensure that Magnezone is on the bench, Water Energy is in the hand and Prof's Letter is ready to go.

- Proceed to do minimum 150 damage

- Skyla to find lost Profs Letters or Ultra Balls
- Energy Pouch because its incredible with Magnezone

Very nice list, especially the inclusion of the DDEs (satifies W energy requirement AND still provides damage output boost) !

Why no Clemont (GEN) (vs. Professor's Letter) and/or Fisherman?

Although the DDE satifies Kingdra EX's W energy attack requirement, DDEs may be difficult to find. Secondly, if you are Item-locked, the Puzzle of Time can not be used to retrieve the DDEs from your discard pile.

Also, since Magnezone is your engine for energy attachment acceeration, a few Level Ball would help in getting your Magnemite (and/or Magneton) into play faster without any discard cost.

Suggested deck changes for your consideration:

-1 Ultra Ball - 3 should be sufficient
-1 Trainer's Mail - 3 should be sufficient
-4 Puzzle of Time - less dependence on Items (personal preference)
-4 DDE - HUGE target for Hammers; not really critical should you decide to remove the PoT

+1 Brigette - to help get your bench setup or AZ - to recover/reuse wounded Pokémon/Shaymin EX
+1 Clemont - to search your deck and get up to 4 L energy
+2 Fisherman - useful in recovering up to 4 Basic energy from your discard pile.
+2 Level Ball
+4 W

This alternative approach is far less susceptible to Item-lock and Hammers and minimizes your risks should you have limited/no access to your DDEs.

I hope you find these comments helpful.

I REALLY want to make this deck work, because I like Kingdra as a pokemon, and I like the artwork on the full art. If only it had an ability that said all energy on it was basic. Anyways, I would drop a magnezone, and a magnemite for 2 Raikou. It is a really good second attacker that is easy to power up, and only gives one prize. I would definitely switch the 4 DDE for water and remove 1 rare candy for a manaphy

Thanks guys, I agree with the W Energy being better overall and the lack of Clemont was genuinely because I forgot the card existed.

Manaphy is a great idea as my Kingdra's will all have Water Energy attached but I would like to avoid more EX's on the bench if possible.

I'll update the deck list at some point with some refinements derived from your suggestions here.

I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but kingdra says "basic lightning energy" so DDE doesn't increase damage dealt :(

i love kingdra and tested it with magnezone and playing super scoop up is fun it makes it so you can heal and with a magnezone out you can put all the energy back on immediately. kingdra is fun in expanded with eels

Could you please just update the deck list in the original post going forward? Thanks!

Glad I'm not the only one looking forward to Kingdra. Magnezone decks have to use Pikachu as a OHKO sort of card, and it's nice to have something that doesn't need to discard all of its energy to attack. Its main issue IMO is its high energy cost, which can leave it open to Mewtwo or Yveltal counter-attacks.

With that in mind, I'd recommend adding some Fighting Fury Belts. This way, Mewtwo needs to hit 210 in order to KO a Kingdra (4 Energy on Kingdra (120) + 3 on Mewtwo (90).

Although after I've typed this, I've learned that Energy Pouch is a Tool (go me), so I guess you'd only want to run 1 or the other Tools. FFB is my preference, but it's up to you. I think you do need a bit of a backup attacker just in case, so I would go;

-2 Energy Pouch
-1 Kingdra EX
+ 2 Raikou
+ 1 Lugia EX

Just for some cleanup;

- 1 N
+ 1 Sycamore
- 1 Water
+ 1 Smeargle

I would also recommend Giovanni's Scheme in this deck, because hitting 150 or 160 (with FFB) when you need to 1HKO an EX is going to fall frustratingly short. You could run Muscle Band, but since it's getting rotating, maybe not.

Hope this s useful.
