School
To some, school is
a building of torture, where kids are forced to think hard and hurt their brains
an asylum for smart and not-so-smart kids whose parents are crazy
a last-place ribbon hanging on the wall reminding you how awful you are at running
To others, school is
a building for blooming geniuses, budding artists, a place to express talent
the highlight of their day because they got 100% on a test
a first-place trophy sitting on the shelf, shining with glee
Yet others may think school is
a place to relax and let your brain go free
not bad, not good, but somewhere in between
an honorable mention reminding you that you still did something.
Opportunity
I see a golden opportunity.
I wait.
The opportunity stares back at me.
I see a great opportunity.
I wait.
The opportunity sees me too.
I see a good opportunity.
I wait.
The opportunity just looks at me.
I see an opportunity.
I reach for it.
It jumps away.
It is gone.
I waited too long.

Complainin'
This chicken is much too chewy
This beef is much too tough
This Jell-O is much too gooey
The floor is much too rough
This dining hall is much too loud
And my computer’s slow
I cannot see a single cloud
And of course there’s never snow.
The TV isn’t working
I’m banned from video games
Homework I could be shirking
I can’t even get near flames.
I’m hungry, I’m bored
I’m tired, I’m sad
I’m loud, uncured
I’m thirsty, I’m mad.
I don’t really like to yell,
I’d rather just complain,
I don’t want to rebel,
I often get migraines
Complain, complain, complain
That’s all I like to do
Come to my domain
And I’ll complain to you.
