Shining Mew, Shining Ho-Oh, and Marshadow from SM3+ ‘Shining Legends!’

Gosh dang it Pokemon, I haven’t even slept yet because of SM3! The Japanese Pokemon Card website has officially revealed SM3+ Shining Legends!

As we posted back in March, the set will be released on July 15th, the same day as the 20th movie. It’ll feature 72 cards, including Shining Mew, Mewtwo, and Pikachu. Each booster pack will come with six cards, with one of the cards being a holo. Presumably, the Pokemon in the set are inspired by the plot of the 20th movie, the first Kanto episode, and Ash’s overall adventures in Kanto.

Like in Neo Destiny, all the Shining Pokemon will have their shiny coloration. They will also be printed on a special holofoil paper. Perhaps it will be similar to the holofoil used for the Shining Pokemon of the Neo era?

The cards from this set will probably be part of our English SM4 set in November.

Shining Mew – Psychic – HP30
Basic Pokemon

[P] Legendary Guidance: Search your deck for 2 Energy cards and attach them to your Pokemon in any way you like. Then, shuffle your deck.

[P] Beam: 10 damage.

Weakness: Psychic (x2)
Resistance: none
Retreat: 1

Marshadow – Psychic – HP70
Basic Pokemon

Ability: Desperation
When you play this Pokemon from your hand to your Bench, both players shuffle their hands into their decks and draw 4 cards.

[P][C] Shadow Punch: 30 damage. This attack’s damage isn’t affected by Resistance.

Weakness: Darkness (x2)
Resistance: Fighting (-20)
Retreat: 1

A Shining Ho-Oh promo will also be given out to those who purchase a booster box of the set from participating stores. It will be printed on special holofoil paper like the Shining Pokemon from the main set. Shining Ho-Oh will also be in the set with alternate artwork.

Shining Ho-Oh – Fire – HP130
Basic Pokemon

Ability: Flap of the Golden Wings
If this Pokemon is your Active Pokemon and is Knocked Out by damage from an opponent’s Pokemon’s attack, move 2 Basic Energy from this Pokemon to your Benched Pokemon in any way you like.

[R][C][C][C] Fire Blast: 110 damage. Discard 1 Energy attached to this Pokemon.

Weakness: Lightning (x2)
Resistance: Fighting (-20)
Retreat: 2

A Ho-Oh-GX blister pack will also be released on July 1st containing a jumbo Ho-Oh-GX, six booster packs, and an exclusive Ash’s Pikachu promo.

Ash’s Pikachu – Lightning – HP70

[C] I Choose You: Search deck for a Pokemon and put it into your hand. Then, shuffle your deck.

[L][L][L] Thunderbolt: 100 damage. Discard all Energy attached to this Pokemon.

Weakness: Fighting (x2)
Resistance: Metal (-20)

  1. Mega Mewtwo I see dead because of Garbodor. Stick in a couple of these mews and you won't have very much items to play in the first place! It may or may not bring back Mega Mewtwo into meta.
  2. Green778 It's always darkest before the dawn...

Have people forgotten about Virizion or Palkia EX? This thing technically does this with 1 energy! And it says "cards" so I can actually attach double Dragon Rainbow!

    Any energy acceleration = GOOD

I'd love it if they made a lot of Shinings over time and turned them into secret rares for English sets like how they did it in the BW Era and neo...Revelation? I'm sure that won't be the case but man that would be nice. (Insert obligatory me hating rainbow rares here)

Marshadow seems amazing with Shaymin EX rotating

Mew is pretty good. It's like Xerneas from XY base but for any energy. The problems is that the HP is terrible and the attack requires a psychic energy.

It seems decent. Shuffling and drawing to 4 isn't nearly as good as drawing to 6, especially in the combo-centric decks that would most appreciate more draw power.

I could totally see some kind of turbo deck in expanded maybe using it since it's only 1 prize or some other reason, but in standard I don't think there are gonna be decks that need draw power THAT badly.

  9. I'm really hoping the Shining cards are on nice paper. There are way too many Rainbow Rares for me to collect, but I can do a couple of cool-looking Shining Pokémon. Either way, Mew is very powerful and I don't think a lot of people are giving it enough credit. Enhanced Hammer may very well sneak into a couple of decks as a one-of to combat this attack.
  10. YanMeaga Ogre Darner Pokemon... C'mon...

They better not texture them like radiant collection cards...

I hope amiami has the ho-oh promos. I ordered 2 boxes fro them.
  12. GoldenYungoos A shiny Yungoos appeared!

Is anyone else thinking the same thing as me? This marshadow could be a post rotation shaymin, although we do have tapu lele, this thing gets us a consistent 4 cards and only gives up 1 prize.

I don't mind having a mewtwo GX as long as it is different and interesting. Not just a raw power card something technical that is hard to play to fit in with Mewtwo being a mastermind.

Unfortunately, Shining Arceus just seems like a slightly worse Promo Tapu Koko (10 more damage to each of your opponent's Pokemon, but for an extra Double Colorless Energy). However, it's still a really cool collector's item that I would love to own and the ability is an interesting replacement for Mr. Mime. And who knows, maybe there'll be a card that will make this more viable?

It's a real shame it has to be in the active, unlike Mr Mime

This SM4 set is getting better and better. Can't help but think of Neo Destiny with these Secret Rare cards, assuming they'll be in the English set of course. If they're not I'm filing a complaint.

On another note; would the inclusion of this shiny Arceus card have anything to do with Arceus coming out second in the most popular Pokemon poll in Japan?
  20. MorningSTAR1337 Aspiring Trainer

Seems interesting. The expensive cost of Ultimate Arrow means that Arceus is best suited as the core of a deck rather than a tech (and that it would be overall weak in comparison to other deck namesake cards).

I wonder if the Shining cards will be for Legendaries with "known" shinies (like Diancie, Deoxys, etc) or if there will be special events for them?
