Title says it all, Which is better? Gimp or photoshop. My fiend said she thinks and likes photoshop more than gimp, but I just think she is jealous cause she don't know how to do it.

So which one is better?

RE: Which is better?

Gimp man. Gimp is free, you get tools, and you an download more of them. It is GIMP!

RE: Which is better?

Photoshop is the better software, but comes at a much higher price. *Moved to fake creations*

RE: Which is better?

I've worked with both Gimp and Photoshop. If you can't afford to buy Photoshop, then go for Gimp. If you can afford Photoshop, then definitely go for Photoshop. PS comes with better Gradient Maps, has more effects, has more blending modes, has blending options, better brush options, and is easier to manage.

EDIT: For faking, PS is even better, since everything is already placed for you if you download a PSD font guide.

RE: Which is better?

Ps is infinitely better than Gimp. More tools, better interface (for the life of me, I cannot figure out why they put the tools in a different window then the canvas), all around better. Obviously, if you're short on funds, go for Gimp. However, Photoshop Elements, a scaled down version of full Ps, is only about $100 with a drawing tablet, which is not bad at all.

RE: Which is better?

Gimp is a very nice starter program. You can get used to the program pretty fast. Photoshop I heard is much better with more tools and more options. There is another difference, Gimp is free, but Photoshop is not.

RE: Which is better?

I love Photoshop, But I've never tried Gimp. It's free you say? Where do I download it?

RE: Which is better?

To download Gimp you can visit the Gimp website: http://www.gimp.org/downloads/

RE: Which is better?

GIMP is great for casual use/beginners, and Photoshop is fantastic if you can afford it, and is more "professional", imo. It's infinitely more convenient to use due to the larger amount of tools. The interface is better as well, like 6-D said.

RE: Which is better?

PS is better. Gimp is there as a cheap alternative for Photoshop, so its obviously going to be basically the same thing but lacking in some ways, which is what makes it 100-700$ cheaper.

Photoshop, no question. It's superior in every way. I was fortunate enough to get a heavy discount through my college, but as 6-D said, Elements is a cheap alternative to the CS-series. Though scaled down, it's worth the price. Having had a full version of Photoshop for 7+ years, it's been a long time since I've needed a trial version, but Adobe should still offer a free trial. It's worth giving it a shot, even if you normally use GIMP -- always fun to see what else is out there, eh?

Rare show from teh CMP!

PS. Infinitely better. Your gerund was right and she wasn't jealous. Or maybe.

It may cost but even the oldest PS outstrips GIMP.
