What does it mean when you refer?

What does it mean when a person refers you to this site, and it says if somebody referred you enter there name here, how can i tell if people referred, and do you earn referral points?
 
There's no points that I know of that are called reference points. Can you restate your question, please? I'm still having trouble understanding your question.

I think he means when you refer this website to a friend and a friend joins it.

Yes, that is what i mean, do you get points out of it? or how do people know you referred?
 
We do not have such a system implemented in our forums. Other forums, like SPPf have a system where if you "recruit" other members to join their forums, you get special privilages. The reason why we don't have it is probably because it is we want all of our members to feel equal. I could also see how it could create a spam problem, where people spam in other forums or by e-mail so that they can get more points.

This doesn't mean that the system is wrong, though. It may be more suitable for different types of forums.
 
Thank you, for answering my question, i was wondering about the referral thing, what do Stars under a members name mean?
 
I have no idea, just read the pinned threads(the threads that stay above all the other posts and don't go down even when they're old.) And I haven't seen any stars so far aside from thread ratings.
