the way I see it:
Typhlosion Prime
+ 140 Hp
+ Energy attach from Discard
+ Energy can be placed anywhere
+ Disruptive attack
- Energy attach from Discard (no energy in discard means no fun)
- Puts 1 damage counter when attaches
- Only once per turn (per Typhlosion)
- 2 retreat
- Stage 2
- Own attack requires discard
Emboar
+ 150 Hp
+ Attaches energy from hand
+ Unlimited use per turn
- Attaches energy from hand (no energies on hand means no fun)
- 4 retreat
- Stage 2
- Attack is over-priced (even with the abillity) and under-powered
So in the end I don;t think either one is ''better'' than the other; it really depends on your way of playing really. if you go, let's say, Ninetails draw-engine wise, Typhlosion and Emboar are pretty tied in my opinion; are you going to re-attach the discarded energy, or attach up to 3 new ones that you might drew? It really depends on your deck and playing style. For me, I always look at what is useful in what situation; this always works well for me when choosing between two cards that almost do the same, so I hope this will prove useful to you:
Typhlosion Prime
- Main attacker needs a large of energy to attack and/or Main attacker discards energy
- Heavy retreat
- Bulky pokémon in terms of Hp
- Your deck doesn't run that much energy so it is better to recycle
Emboar
- Main attacker needs a large of energy to attack and/or Main attacker discards energy
- Heavy retreat
- Main attacker hits harder when a lot of energy is in play
- Your deck runs a lot of energy so you can attach multiple times from your hand
If I have to be completely honest, I think Typhlosion prime is the ''superior'' one, but the 10 extra damage you get is the ''real'' drawback of it; if you have lost a lot due to Crobat G you'll know what I mean. Sure, it's ''only'' 10 extra damage, but those ''small'' 10's win and lose games. On top of that Typhlosion prime still has a psuedo-disruption attack, and two less retreat in comparison to Emboar. But Typhlosion can be power-spray'd.
A final piece of mind; if Pokémon Catcher is in 4's in almost any upcoming deck(and Im not even counting in any optional Luxray GL Lv X line(s)), would you rather have something with 2 or 4 retreat being dragged up in front, despite it being able to attach as many energies as possible? Sure, you can pay the 4 energy easily in terms of attachment, but can you afford it...?
