I just thought I might bring up a discussion here. Do you think that Twilight princess is too similar to Ocarina of time?

( I don't think so, by the way. I've just been hearing a lot of complaints lately so I thought I should bring it up)

I marked your topic for possible spoilers. I know I hate being spoiled.

I didn't think it was too similar to Ocarina of Time. It did have its elements, but I found them to be pretty different.

Nah. Of course it was a LITTLE bit similar, seeing as there was a Zelda and a Link.

But it wasn't similar enough that it wasn't it's own game.

Arcanine out.

YES, it was way too similar. That was the only flaw I found in the game. It did build upon everything from Ocarina, such as the horseback riding.  I could make a giant conclusive list of the similarities... but I have a life. :p
Here's a few....
Forest Temple = Grass Temple
Goron Mines = Fire Temple
Lakebed Temple = Water Temple
Arbiter's Grounds = Desert Temple (whatever it was called)
They all had the same basic foundation.

well of course they had the same foundations!!! all zelda games have a grass/forest temple, a fire temple [or fire/ice in majora's mask], a water temple [i don't remember a SPECIFIC water part other than the entire game lol]... and most of them have something in the desert... if there's one that doesn't i don't know what game it is... that's just my humble opinion

I don't think they are too similar, but then again, I am only at Arbiter's Grounds.

I think that the basic structure of it is too similar to ocarina, the order of the temples being the main thing. Thankfully the story being as brilliant and original as it is saves TP, but you can't get away from some things.

OOT - Grass, Fire, Water, Grass, Fire, Water, Undead, Spirit
TP - Grass, Fire, Water, Undead, Ice, "Spirit", Sky, Twilight

Kind of different in my opinion.

Anyway, yes, some parts were OBVIOUSLY ripped from OOT. Some of the bosses (Come on Morpheel, we all know you're Morpha in a later life), several characters...but that's just fanservice. TP justfies being its own game, with fanservice tossed into the package.

Um...am I the only one that understands that Twilight Princess is the sequel to Ocarina of Time? I could go into the details about the timeline, but it would spoil quite a few of the games, so let me just leave it at that. The reason Twilight Princess is like Ocarina of Time is because it's set in the same world as OoT was. I don't know how many years it takes place after OoT, but I do know that's why the worlds look very similar. In fact, the "real" world is the Gamecube version, as the world is flipped around in the Wii version (just like Link's fighting hand is). Also, the Link in TP is a different Link than OoT. The video I provided below explains the deal with everybody being named Link and Zelda.

Once you understand that TP is a sequel, you can understand why so many things remind you of OoT. The remixed Temple of Time music, the location of the temples, etc. It all makes sense.

Here's a video explaining the timeline of Zelda: http://youtube.com/watch?v=RXN1BF65WjI

I'll say it here, that video spoils a LOT OF ZELDA GAMES, INCLUDING OoT AND OTHER ZELDA GAMES. YOU'VE BEEN WARNED.

Also, the video is just a theory, but it makes the most sense. However, Miyamoto himself has placed several hints that this timeline theory is correct. The video was made before TP released, but where they placed it is exactly where it should go in their theory, which only adds to the credibility. It's a good watch, I enjoyed it.

I didn't watch the video (don't want to see any spoilers) but I didn't know all the Zelda games were set in the same place. I mean, I knew they were all in Hyrule, but not in the same Hyrule... eh, that make sense? Oh well.

That video made A LOT of sense, and I really feel like TP fits where it should fit :) (although i for some strange reason stopped playing it... [I should really start playing it again {I think I've been abandoning my Wii <I'm probably just waiting for SSBB |And I can wait for long, cause It'll take a long time 'til it gets released in Europe...|>}]) (lol, that's a lot of brackets)

For those of you who don't watch the movie due to spoilers, this is the base of the theory: Somewhere along the timeline there was a split that caused two seperate Hyrules to exist. Some of the games take place in Hyrule A's world, and some take place in Hyrule B. Possible spoilers about sequels in white (but not revealing game endings or anything)-->Majora's Mask is the sequel to OoT in Hyrule A and Twilight Princess is the sequel to OoT in Hyrule B. It makes sense, trust me, lol.

Also, it explains about the actual legend of princess Zelda, especially how every game does NOT have the same princess in it. Same goes with Link. That name is just dubbed as the hero of the story, much like the James Bond alias works. There are several "James Bond" characters, but the actual name, "Bond" is just an alias, not their real name. It's sort of the same with Link's name.
