An interesting conversation is happening. You have something interesting to say but can't say it until 10 PEOPLE HAVE POSTED after you.
The challenge is to avoid the temptation!
Oh, and no editing your post with replies to things or things you forgot obviously, that defeats the purpose of the challenge.

Conversation starter:
Is music important? Do we need it, or is it just a luxury?

Music IS indeed important. Not only hasn't been proven to stimulate your intellectual brain juices, it promotes creativity and basic skills that can be applies to other things in life (that is if you study music theory)

But even without music theory, music itself is a fun, international way to share interests, have fun, cheer you up from a bad day, pump you up during a sport, etc.

Haha this is great. Anyways, as much as I like it I feel that it is a Luxury, because it is not actually essential to survival. There are people who are deaf, and they are able to survive without it.

It is a luxury with extremely powerful benefits. Music has been shown to significantly lower stress levels in people with moderate to high levels of stress.

It is indeed a luxury though as Snorchu said it has many benefits. It does indeed lower stress level depending on what type of music you are listening too but it can also raise stress level for example if I listen to hard rock where its pretty much all yelling I will become pretty stressed out. Though performers within the musical arts, more specifically vocal and instrumental will most likely do much better in school due to the Mozart Theory that basically states that playing or making music stimulates your brain significantly more than things such as sports.

Not counting the original post as my post here, as I didn't voice my opinion on it.
SafariBlade pretty much took all my thoughts and articulated them.
I'd like to add that while music obviously isn't necessary for survival, like water, it does help a lot. I listen to at least 4 hours of music a day and without it sometimes get overwhelmed and bothered.
Also, my sister is focusing her entire college career on music and the effects it has on the human brain, and intends to make music and visuals that help treat mental things like post traumatic stress disorder.
P.s. Boards of Canada is like music melted in to happiness and nostalgia. I highly recommend them. Especially the album "Music Has the Right to Children"
