Hello everyone! I'm back with one more article before the NAIC, and once again I’ll be looking at one of the new decks from Destined Rivals. In my last article, I went over Marnie's Grimmsnarl ex and how it worked within the Froslass / Munkidori core. In this article, I’ll be going over a different Trainer’s Pokemon: Ethan's Ho-Oh ex. Ethan’s Ho-Oh ex is one of my favorite decks from the new set, and while it doesn’t have anywhere near the established tournament pedigree of Marnie’s Grimmsnarl ex, it is an archetype that has a lot of potential, particularly as the lists for the archetype get more refined.

I disagree that this has the potential to brick. Having played around 150-200 games after previously playing N in JTG, this is like night and day and especially in the face of Budew, more consistent than a lot of other decks with heavier item reliance.

Of course, that is entirely based on the list, can't see yours behind the paywall. But running Squawk + 3 research + 4 iono and going first allows you to get almost any attack off by turn 3, and often even Wellspring by turn 2. Like N, this dismantles every evolution-based deck if you try and get your combo pieces out as fast as you can, a more careful approach just loses you the game. Take the first prize and then think about which tricks you need to guarantee winning the prize race.
