Some help needed for building a team..

Hey guys,

Im planning on making my first competetive team ever... mostly used just for fun... such as battles with friends... and just random wifi battles... So i got some things i need help with...


1. How do i actually BUILD a team? This is the thing im struggling the most with now... The only thing im doing now... is searching for a pokemon combination... which has just no double weaknesses...


2. Evs: i know how it works... but what is the most easy way to level Evs? Since im always breeding pokemon with the for the right nature... So how can i level EVs when my pokemon is just level 1?


3. Hidden powers... If i look at many teams of other players... i see always something like Hidden power [ice]... But everytime i breeded a pokemon... i never had one with hidden power ice? Is there a way of improving the chance of getting hidden power ice?


4. Again Evs... Im planning on catching a Terrakion... and putting him in a team of mine... But... say i got the right nature... then i save the game... and after that i made a fault in Ev training? how can i reset my Evs?

1. Pokemon Online is a good software to use for testing around different combos till you see what works, but normally you start with one thing that you want to use and just go from there with things that cover it's weaknesses or enhance it's strengths.
2. Put a Power item on your pokemon that you want to ev and go fight a bunch of pokemon that give that particular EV that matches the stat the item raises.
3. It's dependent on IVs. IVs are basically a random thing that you just have to soft reset for until you get lucky, unless you RNG.
4. You can reduce EVs by using some certain berries that are (I think) obtained through the dream world. You can also lower EVs on Join Avenue if I remember right.

1. A good place to start is Smogon. They have plenty of helpful guides. Once you've learned the basics, what I generally do is start with a Pokemon/combo/playstyle and then try to cover all weaknesses to opposing Pokemon/teams/playstyles from there.

2. Get Pokerus and Power items, then go to town on whatever Pokemon give the right EV's

3. Hidden Power types depend on your Pokemon's IVs. IVs are values your Pokemon come with when first encountered that range from 0-31 and can't be changed. They are essentially a Pokemon's genes and the higher the number, the higher the stat will be. You can breed for IV's, but beyond that, I don't think there's much that you can do besides hacking or playing on a simulator.
