Ruling Shedinja LOT discard clarification

I'm sure this has already been clarified somewhere before, but does Shedinja LOT discard the Nincada it evolved from when it uses its Ability?

I think it does, but the reason I'm asking is because of Giratina&Garchomp-GX's GX Attack, in which you discard your opponents Active Pokémon and all cards attached to it. In this case, what cards are considered "attached", and what would happen if there was an Attack which only discarded the cards attached to the opponent, but had no effect on the Pokémon itself?

Q. When using Shedinja's "Vessel of Life" Ability is the underlying Nincada discarded, or does it get attached as part of the Pokemon Tool?
A. The Nincada is discarded; only the Shedinja card gets attached as a Pokemon Tool. (Dec 27, 2018 TPCi Rules Team)

Discarding the cards attached but not the Pokémon would remove tools and energy.
