Rent Team Challenge

Welcome to the Rent Team Challenge - The game where you must use the team selected by the post above you. This will work in a YPPY fashion (You- Player- another Player- You again).

Rules:

You must use the team the player above you selected
You then need to build that team (no restriction of format but national dex on Showdown allows all Pokemon to be used) and battle with that team on Showdown.
Share the link of your battle and underneath that link : Six different fully evolved Pokemon names. (no uber legendaries like Dialga or Rayquaza)

I'll start with the team that was suggested in my profile post:

https://replay.pokemonshowdown.com/gen8nationaldex-1117887548

Had no idea what I was doing at the beginning but somehow I got the win. I seriously think my opponent let me won at the end but I'm not too sure lol. I had to use National dex because Zebstrika is illigal in SwSh. That means I had to face both Mega evolution and Z moves, but I had ton of luck. It was a lot of fun regardless of the outcome!

And the team for the next player:

Pidgeot
Scizor
Miltank
Gengar
Poliwrath
Steelix

Good luck!

My actual first battle was against someone who didn’t really know the ropes of competitive Pokémon so I did another battle and got this. https://replay.pokemonshowdown.com/gen4ou-1117903923
I got lucky with a couple crits throughout the battle, but playing around that Gengar was not fun. Thankfully my opponent threw away the Dragonite or else that would’ve been really bad for me down the line. I felt like my opponent was playing like their Gengar was choiced, so throughout the game I looked for a chance to bring Scizor in fresh to Pursuit trap it. Because Gen 4 Scizor :p

Having the theme be HGSS Gym Leader Pokémon was fun, but I’m not cruel enough to give someone the Hoenn Gym Leader aces. So the team for the next player will be (courtesy of Random Pokémon Generator):

Crabominable
Archeops
Serperior
Kingler
Gumshoos
Donphan

Good luck!

It took a couple battles but I made the team successfully win a national dex battle. I would like to point out that I did not use mega evolution or any z crystals. One battle I literally only lost because I only got a 35% damage using Energy Ball when the previous Energy Ball I did 39% and because FireLizard was so kind as to give me 4 Pokemon weak to electric types, I got swept by Zeraora.

Here is the Team I ended up using:
Garchomp @ Yache Berry
Ability: Rough Skin
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Earthquake
- Dragon Claw
- Poison Jab
- Swords Dance

Yache Berry Garchomp was incredible in the past with Swords Dance so it seemed like a good set to use. Even though my team is half types that are immune to Sand Storm, giving up a move slot for that was just too much. That is also why I chose not to go mega.

Kabutops @ Assault Vest
Ability: Swift Swim
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Adamant Nature
- Knock Off
- Waterfall
- Brick Break
- Stone Edge

I had debated back and forth on using Weak Armor instead of Swift Swim, but thought Swift Swim would be more effective because it was something I could control. I chose to go all out offense with Kabutops because it doesn't have a lot of defenses. I went for Assault Vest because that way I have a chance of surviving thunderbolts.

Mantine @ Leftovers
Ability: Water Absorb
EVs: 252 HP / 4 Atk / 252 SpA
Mild Nature
- Aqua Ring
- Gunk Shot
- Scald
- Ice Beam

Mantine is hard to work with. It didn't seem to have Roost available as an option nor Barrier / Acid Armor to improve its lower defense stat. I accidentally picked mild nature and would use bold next time. Aqua Ring compliments leftovers recovery and also gives me a chance to stall some weaker moves.

Farfetch'd @ Leek
Ability: Defiant
EVs: 248 HP / 252 Atk / 8 SpD
Adamant Nature
- Leaf Blade
- Knock Off
- Close Combat
- Defog

Farfetch'd I heavily considered using Eviolite and then going 252 in both defenses and then running a Roost / Dance set. Then I remembered that it has almost no speed. With 2 Pokemon weak to Stealth Rock and the chance the foe could use Toxic Spikes, running Defog was a must.

Shiftry @ Leftovers
Ability: Chlorophyll
EVs: 248 HP / 8 SpA / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Leech Seed
- Substitute
- Energy Ball
- Dark Pulse

I opted to go for a SubSeed set on Shiftry to try and force switches. This also can give a chance to set up a substitute off a predicted switch.

Jirachi @ Leftovers
Ability: Serene Grace
EVs: 224 HP / 252 SpA / 32 Spe
Modest Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Psychic
- Stealth Rock
- Rain Dance
- Thunder

I needed a Stealth Rock user so Jirachi ended up becoming that. I opted for Rain Dance because of having two Water-types on my team. This also gave me access to Thunder which has a 30% chance of causing paralysis instead of just 10% like Thunderbolt. It also effectively eliminates the fire weakness of Jirachi. Since I am running a setup / lead type of set, running a lot of HP was important instead of a ton of speed.

Replay: https://replay.pokemonshowdown.com/gen8nationaldex-1118087900

The next player will need to use these Pokemon:
Latios
Swampert
Salazzle
Sylveon
Galvantula
Meganium

This should be really fun and let you try out a bunch of cool stuff.

So everybody decided to bring their tryhard Gen 7 OU teams this morning which made getting a battle worth saving way tougher than it should’ve been. Meganium and Sylveon on the same team was weird, and in retrospect I probably should’ve had Meganium be the screen setter, but Curse Meganium just seemed fun, especially with all the Toxapex running around. But Curse was kind of counterproductive at times in conjunction with Sticky Web, so all in all it was a very poorly built team on my part, and it shows in this battle as Meganium’s Curse works against it, Swampert lacks Ice coverage, and Latios alongside Sticky Web does most of the work.

The next team is:
Jynx
Lunatone
Leavanny
Swalot
Ribombee
Alolan Marowak

That was a good battle you had Blakers. I was expecting Meganium to be the screen setter. This is a good exercise to use Pokemon you aren't used to using. I was hoping to see Sticky Web put to good use with the Pokemon I gave you. Some of your Pokemon had the option to go more bulky because of that.

Ability: Sticky Hold
EVs: 252 HP / 4 Atk / 252 SpD

This was a brutal team to try to use; there were plenty of cool things to do with the Pokémon on it but so many of them are just really bad. Gligar and Sneasel were by far the most competent members of the team. Gligar was a standard Eviolite set, Sneasel was a Swords Dance set, Stantler set screens, Sunflora was a Chlorphyll build, Aipom was a Choice Band set, and Murkrow was a Perish Trap set because that was the most fun thing I could do with it. It was really hard to make a lot of my gimmicks work due to the low stats across the board, but I was still able to get some replays that for the most part showed off the team.

The next team is:
Torkoal
Slaking
Altaria
Solrock
Lunatone
Milotic

Good luck!

I plan on giving Blakers team a try after work tomorrow. It is almost 10pm now and I have to be at work at 5:30am otherwise I would do it now. I plan on trying to go for a sun type of team because I think it would be interesting.

Looks like fun :)

I ended up just messing around, really. I didn't put too much thought into it at all but I did have fun with this. Somehow I ended up winning more than I lost, which I consider an achievement (Three of the four games I played. I didn't think I needed more than that).
https://play.pokemonshowdown.com/battle-gen8nationaldex-1120823112 - Turbo Torkoal
https://play.pokemonshowdown.com/battle-gen8nationaldex-1120824044 - Truant OP, pls nerf
https://play.pokemonshowdown.com/battle-gen8nationaldex-1120826173 - "Solrovk a beast gaddamn"

Torkoal @ Focus Sash

EVs: 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Shell Smash
- Flamethrower
- Ancient Power
- Solar Beam

Slaking @ Choice Band
Ability: Truant
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Giga Impact
- Sucker Punch
- Ice Punch
- Play Rough

Altaria-Mega @ Altarianite
Ability: Pixilate
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Adamant Nature
- Dragon Dance
- Play Rough
- Earthquake
- Outrage

Solrock @ Aguav Berry
Ability: Levitate
EVs: 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Modest Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Ancient Power
- Calm Mind
- Rock Polish
- Psyshock

Lunatone @ Light Clay
Ability: Levitate
EVs: 248 HP / 8 Def / 252 SpD
Calm Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Reflect
- Light Screen
- Stealth Rock
- Toxic

Milotic @ Leftovers
Ability: Marvel Scale
EVs: 252 HP / 252 Atk / 4 SpD
Adamant Nature
- Waterfall
- Rest
- Coil
- Sleep Talk

Torkoal and Solrock are both setup sweepers, Lunatone is dual screens, Milotic is a knockoff Crocune, although not as good. It was a decently fun team for the ten minutes I played it, I can definitely see myself coming back to this thread :)

Next team, based on Johto bc it's my favourite region:
- Wobbuffet
- Mantine
- Noctowl
- Tyranitar
- Qwilfish
- Sneasel

Somehow when I was rolling these, using PS's !randpoke command just to get six different mons, I managed to hit three Mantine, two Pupitar and a Tyranitar. It's not truely random, surely?

Ooh, this was a fun challenge to try! I played my games on Gen 7 OU because I figured that was a fair format for this team, but the competition was-uh-really bad. Anyways, here's what happened:
https://replay.pokemonshowdown.com/gen7ou-1122106043 This one was pretty slow, but I was able to overpower them with my attackers by the end.
https://replay.pokemonshowdown.com/gen7ou-1122113687 Opponent quit pretty early, but I was outplaying them at the time I suppose.
https://replay.pokemonshowdown.com/gen7ou-1122114927 Again I simply defeated my opponent with strong attacks.
https://replay.pokemonshowdown.com/gen7ou-1122117597 I shouldn't have won this one, but the opponent switched out their Clefable for no reason and I was able to get a pretty smooth win after that.
https://replay.pokemonshowdown.com/gen7ou-1122120940 Only got a couple turns before they forfeited, but I had already taken a nice advantage over them.

I ended up undefeated with a record of 5-0, but I think my main conclusion with this is less that my team was good and more that other players on Gen 7 OU are predictable and make mistakes. However, this team was pretty fun in that it had three good aggressive physical attackers than could obliterate the opposition (Dragonite's Flyinium Z was p amazing) but balanced it out with the other three having useful utility roles, with Lanturn as a special attacker/pivot, Claydol for hazards, and Empoleon for stall.
Here's my team (admittedly mostly copied from recommended sets I could find online):
Dragonite @ Flyinium Z
Ability: Multiscale
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Adamant Nature
- Dragon Dance
- Extreme Speed
- Earthquake
- Fly

Bisharp @ Life Orb
Ability: Defiant
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Swords Dance
- Knock Off
- Iron Head
- Sucker Punch

Claydol @ Colbur Berry
Ability: Levitate
EVs: 104 HP / 136 Def / 136 SpA / 132 SpD
Modest Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Stealth Rock
- Rapid Spin
- Earth Power
- Psychic

Empoleon @ Leftovers
Ability: Defiant
EVs: 252 HP / 4 Atk / 252 Def
Impish Nature
- Scald
- Defog
- Toxic
- Knock Off

Machamp @ Flame Orb
Ability: Guts
EVs: 248 HP / 252 Atk / 8 SpD
Adamant Nature
- Close Combat
- Knock Off
- Facade
- Bullet Punch

Lanturn @ Assault Vest
Ability: Volt Absorb
EVs: 252 HP / 252 SpA / 4 SpD
Modest Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Volt Switch
- Scald
- Ice Beam
- Hidden Power [Fire]

For the next team, I've got:
Bruxish
Alcremie
Haxorus
Seviper
Meowstic
Breloom

Good luck! :D
