Happy Holidays, Writers!

This year has been a wonderful year for the Writer's Corner! New contests were introduced, activity increased tenfold, and most importantly, the passion of writing has been revived! In a break from tradition, let's reflect on what we've accomplished this year.

Rule Revision
This year, the rules were revised not just once, but twice! While the original rules were executed very well, the staff thought it was time to breathe a fresh breath of life into the rules; the rules are now less wordy and less strict. After all, the Writer's Corner is a sociable environment dedicated to our common love for writing; this isn't prison!

Introduction of New Contests
The year 2013 was the year of user-engaging contests here in the Writer's Corner! The introduction of the Quarterly PB Short Story Competition proved to be an arduous task for those who chose to participate in the competition. This intriguing contest required authors to write a fan-fiction within a strict set of criteria. On the other hand, for those who do not care for writing ten chapter fan-fictions, the staff introduced the PokéPoetry! contest. This bubbly contest was a revamp of the Biweekly Haiku & Short-Poem Contest, which was more strict with its set of requirements. In PokéPoetry!, writers are assigned a specific Pokémon with which they are to write a poem of any style of their choosing. If you think 2013 was full of exhilarating contests, just wait until you see 2014!

Revival of Interest
2013 brought a significant change in the Writer's Corner - activity. In the beginning of 2013, the Writer's Corner experienced little to no activity. The Writer's Corner would go months without a single post. There was nothing to intrigue writers and the inspiration for writing was lost. Harsh prerequisites made submitting a fan-fiction almost impossible. Starting in August, however, a huge surge in activity occurred. New members joined with the intention of showcasing their writing. Old members were inspired by this surge in activity and seized the moment to return to the Writer's Corner to showcase their work. In effect, a new community of writers has evolved. The staff were highly engaged in user activities, and new staff members brought forth new changes.

Staff Changes
With varying times comes new people, and the moderation team of the Writer's Corner is no exception to this golden rule.

Incinermyn, PB Staff Alumni: Incinermyn introduced a new line of contests and added an air of sophistication to the Writer's Corner, which was renamed "TWC" under his administration. New rules were implemented under the administration of Incinermyn, and those very rules are the foundation and standard for the Writer's Corner's current set of rules.

Dustin DeVine/Colress/le Roi-Soleil, PB Staff Alumni: By the end of Incinermyn's administration, around April-May, activity in TWC had declined tremendously; by June, TWC was totally dead. A series of reforms was thrust into TWC, originally to little avail; however, activity steadily increased. A new community of writers began to emerge and the foundations for a new community were established. A series of new contests was introduced to increase user-activity, and the contests were very well-received. By December, member activity increased tenfold and a new story was being posted almost every week. Le Roi-Soleil's administration ended on 2 December 2013 due to personal, real-life reasons.

Turtwig, Moderator: Turtwig is the newest addition to the Writer's Corner staff and is the successor of le Roi-Soleil. Under Turtwig's as of now short-lived administration, TWC was renamed the Writer's Corner, reflecting upon the old "Writer's Corner" of 2011 and 12. A new series of user-based, writing-involved questions were launched by Turtwig and have gained a fair amount of popularity. We cannot wait to see what else Turtwig has in store for the Writer's Corner!

In conclusion, the year 2013 has been a rather eventful year for the Writer's Corner, and we hope the same for 2014! Happy Holidays, writers, and have a happy New Year!
