Welcome to PB Forums' first annual Secret Santa! This activity aims to spread joy throughout the community, and spark positive new relationships within the public body. Secret Santa is a great way for members, new and veteran alike, to include PB in their holiday festivities.

What is Secret Santa?

Secret Santa is a secret gift exchange between members of a community. Each participant is assigned a member to anonymously send a gift to every certain interval of time. In addition to the gift, a small clue is given regarding the identity of the sender. Recipients will try to figure out the identity of the sender, while also enjoying the gifts they have been receiving. At the final interval, the identity of the sender will be included with the final installment of gift distribution.

How does it work?

Secret Santa is usually executed in an office, classroom, or other physical community. Because PB's Secret Santa is going to be run over the forums, the procedures are slightly different. The following is a step by step guide to the series of events in this activity.

1. Once sign-ups are complete, names will be randomized, and Private Messages will be sent out containing the identity of the member who you will be gifting.

2. Participants will have one week to come up with a gift, and create a clue to send to their recipient.

3. Once the material is ready to be sent, participants will send their gift and clue via PM to Jay. DO NOT PM THE GIFT TO THE RECIPIENT. Sending it through a confederate is what keeps the anonymity of this activity.

4. Jay will distribute your gift to its recipient. The name of the sender will be removed.

5. This will repeat for three weeks. Upon the fourth and final week, the identity of each member's Secret Santa will be revealed alongside the final gift. Remember that you are still to send your final gift to Jay, rather than PMing the recipient yourself. Traditionally, the final gift is supposed to be of somewhat larger magnitude than the previous. Due to the obvious limits of doing this by forums, we ask that you do the best that you can.

6. The exchange is complete! Feel free to thank your Secret Santa, or post some of the cool gifts you received.

What are the rules?

To make sure that things run smoothly, and to make sure everyone is getting treated fairly, there are some basic rules to keep in mind while participating in PB's Secret Santa.

1. Make sure you are sending appropriate gifts. Any gift containing hateful, derogatory, or otherwise inappropriate content will result in the sender being immediately removed from the competition, as well as potential forum consequences.

2. Put some effort into this activity. Accumulating something to send to your recipient should not take much time at all, but writing a five-word note right before the deadline is hardly appropriate. Remember that your recipient is going to find out who their Secret Santa was! Participants who habitually give effortless gifts, and send last minute may face removal from the activity.

3. Don't reveal any information that should not be revealed. Secret Santa is a fun activity, and spoiling the surprises can ruin things for everyone. If you are caught leaking information, you may be removed from the activity.

4. No Tangible gifts. PB's Secret Santa does not facilitate the exchange of tangible materials. We are not responsible for any transactions between members.

5. Have Fun! Having fun is the bosom of purpose for this activity!

What can I send as a gift?

Obviously, sending digitally eliminates the plethora of gift ideas that are traditionally given in Secret Santa. The following are a few ideas for things that can be sent. Don't limit yourselves to these, as a creative gift is always going to be more appreciated!

- Create a piece of artwork. Signatures, avatars, even a hand sketch will do. You don't have to be proficient in art to be able to make something that people will enjoy!

- Write a poem, a letter, or even just a friendly note. The smallest of things can make the biggest of impacts one someones day! Kind words go a long way.

- Send an eCard! There are a lot of cool eCard sites out there, and making your own is even better!

- Send something that will make your recipient laugh! Funny pictures, videos, or stories are a great way to bring out a smile. This doesn't mean to link to the first pictures you find on google images. Put some thought into finding something nice, or even better; make your own!

- We will permit the sending of gifts that hold value but are not tangible. E-magezine subscriptions, Digital gift cards, Pokemon TCGO codes, Nintendo Points, and Facebook/Game credits are a few examples.
