Plasma's March (Thundurus EX/Volcarona/Night March)

I feel like I should be following Smogon rules where I don't post in this thread too often but I get a good feeling off this deck, so I'm hoping I can get some good feedback.

Pokemon: 19

  • 2 Larvesta (PlB)
    2 Volcarona (PlB)
    2 Thundurus EX
    1 Lugia EX
    4 Joltik (PhF)
    4 Lampent (PhF)
    4 Pumpkaboo (PhF)
Trainers/Supporters/Stadiums: 29

  • 3 Battle Compressor
    2 Switch
    3 Ultra Ball
    2 VS Seeker
    2 Colress
    2 Lysandre
    3 N
    4 Juniper
    2 Dimension Valley
    3 Muscle Band
    3 Plasma Badge
Energy: 12

  • 3 Double Colorless Energy
    4 Plasma Energy
    5 Lightning Energy

Strategy:

Okay, this deck's main idea at the start was to capitalize on Volcarona's Solar Transporter - discarding off 5 cards from the top of your deck seems harmful, but in Night March it could prove to help mill off the Marchers! Then I realized I need something that can help accelerate, I needed a 'back-up' plan, and that's where Lugia EX and Thundurus EX come in, along with the Plasma Badges. Plasma Badge can turn one of the benched Marchers into a Plasma Pokemon, Thundurus begins Raiden Knuckling and attaching discarded energy - from retreating, Battle Compressed off, etc. - and Lugia acts as a clean-up sweeper if need be.

What I've noticed in this deck, however, are two things:

1. Sometimes I don't get the draw power I need, meaning there's a few turns of twiddling my thumbs hoping I get the draw I need while my opponent sits there and wracks up damage, prizes, energy and so on.

2. It's really hard to get that acceleration going early enough to warrant Thundurus EX being in the deck. When it works, it works really well, but up until that point I'm not in the best place. As a result, there are some games where I need to concede fairly quickly because I don't have the acceleration I need.

So with that, hopefully this deck isn't a lost cause - and if it is, I got Plasma cards to start building Plasma - that may be fruitful... eventually. Thanks for reading!

I would actually just drop the volcorona line and add 1 N, 1 Colress, and maybe 2 Shauna as well so you have more draw power. I say that just because I think you are reliying to much on the larvesta volcorona start.

Fair point to make; I just thought it'd conceptually work well with Night March.

Yeah it would work I just think it would take a while to set up and the night marchers do not have a lot of HP. And with batlle compressors and ultra balls and other cards that discard do it more efficiantly and with less risk.

That's a great point... What about the rest of the engine, though?

Good with the additional support, I would also put in either computer search or dowzing machine becuase that alow ou to discard your night marchers and grab cards that you need.

I wish I had these, but the PTCGO's trade market... That is an environment you will NEVER find a balanced trade in. It's either one-sided your way or one-sided the other.

Yeah I agree about the trade market. If you dont have those ace specs I would recomend a fourth battle compressor, another VS seeker, another Ultra Ball, or a Mr. Mime.

Mr. Mime does help out with the Darkrai/Fairy match up... And I have the rest of those. I'll have to fiddle with card counts.

You could also accelerate energy onto the Night Marchers using Colress Machine + Plasma Energy, or you could put in Skylas to grab the Badge. Bicycles or Roller Skates also work as good draw cards.
Also, Volcarna is not really an efficient discarder... although if you want to try a Plasma/Nightmarch Deck you could use Badge + Gourgiest + Grass Energy + Deoxys

I wanted to put in Skylas but I don't have any! I'll probably put a trade up for them tonight or tomorrow morning, though. Colress Machine's also a card I really want but I don't have, so that'll probably be another thing I grab.

...Uh, I'm sorry, can you explain the thought process behind that? I'm tired and it's late.

Oh, and Celebi.
You evolve your nightmarch Pumpkaboo and attach a Grass Energy for 200HP. Celebi allows Gorugiest to use Pumpkaboo's night march, and with a badge, it can get a Deoxys attack boost.

Ahhh, that's what you meant, okay! That takes a lot of deck resource, though...

If the pokemon isn't already plasma. Its just better to use muscle band over deoxys. That just takes up 3 slots on the bench to do more than muscle band. Muscle band is 1 card. 2 deoxys and a plasma badge are 3 cards. I dont think its ever worth it to plasma a deck unless its already inherently plasma.
