I have always loved thinking up random Pokemon cards with cool effects for awhile now and after seeing you could make text-base Pokemon cards I decided to make my own thread to just let all my idea's go!

My cards will be posted in the discussion but I will sooner rather than later be updating this post to include new cards. (hopefully)

I will be using this thread to post my Text-based Pokemon cards.

Working on: Nothing in particular

Stage 2–Porygon-Z– Colorless– HP130
Evolves from Porygon2

Ability: Upgrade
Once during your turn (before your attack), you may Knock Out 1 of your Pokemon. If you do, attach as many different types of basic Energy cards from the discard pile to your Pokemon in any way you like.

While this Pokemon has a Pokemon attached to it this Pokemon can use the attacks of that Pokemon (You still need the necessary Energy to use each attack of that Pokemon.)

Weakness: [F]
Resistance:
Retreat: 2
I think I could have won first place if my Pokemon grammar was better (Remember that it was one of my first cards.) I made lots of little mistakes but my biggest was that I did not use the special é when I spelled Pokémon (10 mistakes were made just by the misspelling of Pokémon.) assuming that 1 point was taken off for each misspelling (Overkill!!!) I had fun though (that's what counts) and I can't wait till the next CAC tournament comes out! And maybe I will take first place next time :D

My primary suggestion is to be careful of small wording/spelling errors. All of your Psychic-type cards are currently "Physic" type, and there are a few instances of, for example, Item not being capitalized when it should be.
Other than that, I look forward to seeing more of your work!

Thanks for the input I will fix those mistakes right away! Also is the word Item always capitalized in Pokemon or are my errors just normal spelling errors?

When referring to an Item card, Item is always capitalized.

It's just minor spelling stuff. General rules of thumb to remember, though:
–Defending Pokémon is always written like so. "Defending" is always capitalized.
–Pokémon is written with the accent over the e, but this is, outside of the CAC, mostly preference, and many fakers don't use it.
–"Flip a coin. If heads,..." Remember the period after "coin".
–Stadium card, Supporter card, Item card, etc.
–Capitalize the start of the sentence.
–"...and this attack does XX damage to your opponent's Active Pokémon," not "deal XX damage".
–Capitalize Benched Pokémon.
–Numeral "1", not word "one".

Sorry, I know this is a lot. It's just some good things to know. If you can think of an existing card with the same effect as one of your cards, I suggest you look it up and use that text as a reference.

In my new set Hidden Powers there is a new mechanic called Hidden Power (Its not the attack Hidden Power). While you have a Mental Key attached to that Pokmeon that has a Hidden Power it can use that Hidden Power attack or ability like normal however while it does not have a Mental Key attached to the Pokemon it cannot use its Hidden Power.

Stage 1–Tangrowth– Grass– HP140
Evolves from Tangela

Hidden Power:
Ability: Over Grown
As long as Tangrowth's remaining HP is 80 or less, each of Tangrowth's attacks does 50 more damage to the Defending Pokémon (before applying Weakness and Resistance).

[G][C] Grass Knot 20+ damage

[G][G][G] Fury Lashes 50x damage

Weakness: [R]
Resistance: [W]

Trainer - Item
Mental Key
Attach a Pokemon Tool to 1 of your Pokemon that doesn't already have a Pokemon Tool attached to it.

The Pokemon this card is attached to may use its Hidden Power ability or attack.

You may play as many Item cards as you like during your turn(before you attack).

I like your hidden power idea - very cool! Is it affected by things like Garbodor's Garbotoxin?

Grass Knot should be worded like on Tangrowth PRC, while you should use Gourgeist PHF for Over Grown. Furry Lashes exists on Zapdos LT/NXD. Btw, did you mean Fury Lashes not Furry Lashes?

Anyways, you can check for wording on other scans using a searcher like pkmncards.com. I use the text:"text" function to search for wordings I'm not sure of. If I want to check for wording for things like Grass Knot, I would simply punch in text:"retreat cost" and see what comes up.

Thanks so much @bbninjas!
Garbodor does effect the ability but not the Hidden Power mechanic. So if the Pokemons Hidden Power was a attack it would not be effected. But if the Mental Key card was not on the Pokemon or its effect was negated (Banette ROS 31) then it could not use its Hidden Power.

I think i am going to use a ability like Turtwig GL RR 85's for the Over Grow ability.

Thanks again!

This Pokemom has a Hidden Power that's an attack.
Basic–Miltank– Colorless– HP100

Flip a coin. If heads, the Defending Pokemon is now Paralyzed.

Some more captilisation: Paralyzed, Asleep, Poison, Burn, Confused.
Also remember the comma after "If heads".

Besides that, you can certainly tell you've been checking wording, so awesome job!

Thanks I will try to remember that next time :D (and I will change it in my cards). Also what do you think of Miltank?

I think the point of Hidden Power as a mechanic is unlocking a Pokémon's highest, most hidden, power. I don't think Miltank's Hidden Power attack is quite good enough to warrant attaching a Mental Key to it, when you could probably do about that much damage with Throw anyway. My suggestion, therefore, is to not be afraid to go a bit above and beyond with the Hidden Powers. It'll be balanced out by the fact that you can only use 4 of them in a game (barring LTC, Dowsing Machine, Junk Arm, etc.).

Thanks I will try to remember that next time :D (and I will change it in my cards). Also what do you think of Miltank?
Jabberwock stated much of my opinions on the Miltank, especially regarding the Hidden Powers. Also, don't be afraid to think up different attack effects that you don't recall ever seeing before. Also, you may like to think of more flavorful names for the card. Instead of "Throw" you could simply rename it "Hoof Throw" and for "Body Slam" you could name it "Cattle Slam". These are much more interesting and fun then a simple "Throw" and "Body Slam". You can, of course, be more creative than the names I mentioned, even to the extent of making an attack name and then making the effect (which is what I like to do more often).

Here's a request from me so you can practice making a unique effect: A Scyther with an attack/ability name of "Wicked Parry".

I like the Hidden Power idea a lot too. That'd be a fun mechanic to play with in the real game.

It's kinda similar to Genesect-EX's G-Booster and G-Scope, or Magma Pointer / Aqua Diffuser. Those were tied to the Tool instead of to the Pokemon, though. But yeah, I want to see some more powerful, unique Hidden Power abilities/moves! I'm not saying Miltank should have a flippin' laser cannon like Genesect... but I'm also not not saying Miltank should have a flippin' laser cannon. :p

So what you guys are saying is make the Hidden Power ability's/moves more powerful and with more unique names and effects. Hmmm... Okay I will try!

Here is Scyther! Is he OP? Also I decided to give him a Hidden Power.

Basic–Scyther– Grass– HP90

Hidden Power:
[C][C] Swarm 20x damage
Does 20 damage times the number of Scyther you have in play.

Ability: Wicked Parry
If this Pokemon is your Active Pokemon and is damaged by an opponent's attack (even if this Pokemon is Knocked Out), reduce damage dealt to this Pokemon by 20 and put 2 damage counters on the Attacking Pokemon.

[C][C][C] Blurring Slash 70 damage

Weakness: [R]
Resistance:
Retreat: 2

I have wanted to do something similar to this for a long time but I'm just really lazy. I like your hidden power idea but I'm noticing in your set list there is a lack of EXs/megas. If you want help making cards or coming up with ideas let me know. :)

If this Pokemon is you active Pokemon and is damaged by an attack reduce damage dealt to this Pokemon by 20 and choose one of this Pokemon's attacks and use it (you still need the necessary energy to use the attack and your turn does not end after using the attack).

[C][C][C] Blurring Slash 70 damage

Weakness: [R]

Retreat: 2

Yeah, it is OP. Being able to attack more than once is pretty OP. Swarm in itself isn't too powerful (you can do up to 80 damage without modifiers). Wicked Parry feels a bit too complex. You could just do the reducing damage and then put a few damage counters. Check Quagsire BCR and Druddigon NV for wording. I really like the flavour, though! =D

Thanks, and I changed him.

here a card of one of my favorite dragon types... Hydreigon!

Stage 2–Hydreigon– Dragon– HP140
Evolves from Zweilous

Hidden Power:
Ability: Super Luck
Once during you turn, after you flip any coins for an attack this Pokemon uses, you may ignore all effects of those coin flips and begin flipping those coins again. (You may only use effects that let you flip coins again, including effects from other cards, once during your turn).

[C][C] Double Hit 30x damage
Flip 2 coins. This attack does 30 damage times the number of heads.

[R][W][L][C] Tri Attack 20+ damage
Flip 3 coins. If exactly 1 of them is heads, this attack does 50 more damage and your opponent's Active Pokémon is now Burned. If exactly 2 of them are heads, this attack does 100 more damage and your opponent's Active Pokémon is now Burned and can't evolve during your opponent's next turn. If all of them are heads, this attack does 150 more damage and the your opponent's Active Pokémon is now Burned, Paralyzed, and can't evolve during your opponent's next turn.

Retreat: 2
