Nintendo recently had a Nintendo Direct in Japan, and in it, they announced a new model of the 3DS. The new model comes in a regular and XL size, and features a small, second Circle Pad, NFC support, improved 3D viewing angles, and extra shoulder buttons. It also supposedly has extra CPU and RAM. Nintendo also announced that there will be some exclusive games for the new model, for instance they recently announced a port of Xenoblade Chronicles coming to the new 3DS.

I gotta say, I really like this new model. I'd really like more RAM, since IIRC that was the cause of the original 3DS' internet problems. Everything else is just a bonus. I'm not liking how small the second Circle Pad is though, it seems like it's too small to be useful. Also, I am a little worried about it having exclusive games.

Thoughts?

I'm not surprised since this is like the DSi of the 3DS family. I really don't like how they'll be releasing exclusive games, but it makes sense from a business stand point. I think I'll wait and see what else the new 3DS has to offer before forking out another 300 dollars.

How much do you guys wanna bet that 7th gen will be New 3DS exclusive? It makes sense, New 3DS is probably going to extend this generation for a few more years, and the hardware upgrade is perfect for a transition to a new generation. But that's all right, I'd be okay with another 5th gen situation this time for one because the timing is better and it probably won't interfere with 8th gen when the next gen handheld finally comes out, and two because the hardware upgrade means that they'll probably be able to do some cool things (as opposed to 5th gen which didn't really add anything significant or do things that 4th gen couldn't).
