Expanded Merry Christmas: Steelix Stall

Hello you Pokémon players! While opening packs, I discovered a (probably?) unknown combo in the Expanded Format.

Here is the deck list, then I will show you the mechanic:

Pokémon (17)
4 Cobalion (Steam Siege)
4 Steelix (Steam Siege)
3 Magearna EX (Steam Siege)
2 Dhelmise (SM Gaurdians Rising)
2 Shaymin EX (Roaring Skies)
1 Mew (Fates Collide)
1 Hoopa EX (maybe 2?)

Trainers (32)
4 Professor Sycamore
4 Ultra Ball
3 Lysandre
2 N
2 Head Ringer
2 VS Seeker
1 Head Ringer
2 Trainers’ Mail
2 Professor’s Letter
1 Parallel City
2 Alter of the Sunne
3 Acro bike
4 Float Stone

Energy (11)
4 DCE (double colorless energy)
7 Metal Energy

Here is the deal with Magearna and Cobalion:

Cobalion’s first attack: Quick Gaurd prevents all damage done to that Pokémon by attacks from Basic Pokémon during the opponents next turn (but you can’t use that attack during your next turn, but only for that Pokémon *wink*)

We all know what Magearna does (maybe everyone). Magearna EX’s ability states that every single Pokémon (active or benched) that has a metal energy can’t be affected by the affect of your opponents’ Pokémon attacks.

So if we have a Magearna EX on bench and Cobalion (as active) with a metal energy,
not only is Cobalion safe from damage, but effects as well!

“Well PokeMaster, that pokemon can’t use that attack during your next turn! Your vulnerable then!”

WELL....that’s why there are 4 of them in the deck and 4 float stones.....hehe.....

This generally gives you enough time to get the right amount of energy on your Steelix EX’s to (hopefully) get a KO!

Please note that you can use Lysandre to bring up one of your opponents Pokémon with lots of energy on it (or at least the one who will KO your Steelix their turn)

Hope you enjoy the deck! :)

Quick Guard only prevents damage from Basic pokemon. So Cobalion still dies horribly to evolved pokemon like Zoroark (one of the most popular decks in the game)

Also you really don't need Magearna EX much less 3. Not a lot of commonly used pokemon attacks deal effects to pokemon. Most attacks are usually just damage or effects that don't affect the enemy pokemon (like item locking from Seismatoad or draw cards).

This, plus, how does Steelix-EX fit in? AFAIK, Celesteela-GX is just plain better, unless you really want to be able to search it with Hoopa-EX, but imo, you don't even need Hoopa-EX. Head Ringer is also kind of meh. It's only real uses are onto Seismitoad-EX and Shaymin-EX, but on Shaymin it's really situational, and by the existence of cards such as Faba and Field Blower, Seismitoad won't really care either. Maybe if you could keep throwing Head Ringers at it, I guess, but with Quaking Punch, I can't really see that happening.
