Why Lugia lives in water? If you look at it, you can't spot any "gills" around it. Without gills, how can it breathe?

Lugia lives in WATER??

Never watch the movie before? Yes.
One of the reason:

A flap of its wing can blow a house away. Because it is too powerful, it choose to live under water.

Any more reason?

I think I watched the movie before, now that I come to think of it, but that was way before I was interested in Pokemon (OK, mabe a bit interested, otherwise I won't be watching). Anyway, I only watch part of it. Back to topic, maybe Lugia dosen't need gills to breathe. Maybe it uses something else to breathe.....

why not??? maybe it's so powerful that it doesnt even need gills to breath

BTW, if it has gills, it would be very ugly and fish-ish looking.... and i wont love lugia then....

Come to think of it. Pokemons are powerful (if it isn't, how could they unleash their energy such as Hyper Beam), but most of them are same, can't breathe in water. This is why we have some "fish" pokemon.

Another reason:

Long, long time ago, before human was born, LUGIA lives in a huge valley (Pacific ocean now). One day, the legendary KYOGRE was born on the same valley too (LUGIA was having it's afternoon nap). KYOGRE's "Drizzle"(in Pokemon games, this power causes heavy rainfall) causes non-stop heavy rainfall. LUGIA, which still enjoying it's nap, drown into the water. From now on, LUGIA lives under water.

This is what I can think.

its probably so powerful that it make a psychic shield around it (like in X men 3) which can protect him from the water and allow him to breath. or maybe he can take in so much air that from up here and he can store it some how.

How do you know that he doesn't have gills-like-things in his mouth? Do pokemon really need to breath? They do live in another world.

maybe because Nintendo made it so. Some things don't need to obey real life science. Pokemon is a virtual world that can make anything happen. Nintendo's possibilities are unlimited. I don't see Seel with gills. Same for Milotic. In fact, it's the same for those really annoying childrens stories like the little mermaid. Why can that little girl breathe underwater? because the person who made the story made it happen. And what about Regirock having a mind of it's own when there is no brain and it's just a lump of clumped together rocks.

So, why can Lugia breathe underwater? It just does. That's my opinion.
