So I was watching an old Pokemon episode, and in it James referred to an Illumise. He pronounced it, "Illu-meezy", and I had to do a double take just to see what he was talking about.

I've always pronounced it as "ill-oom-eyes". Is James correct? If so, what is the etymology of Illumise? And why isn't there an official pronunciation guide? Some of the third generation really drives me nuts because I pronounce it one way for so long, and then I hear it on the show pronounced a completely different way, and it just doesn't even sound like it's right.

And on a side note, in that same episode, I heard the old voice of Harley, and I must say I like the new one better. The old Harley didn't really sound like he could hurt anyone.

JMHOKTHXBYE.

Hur hur, you sure are behind on this one. Everyone used to pronounce it that way, then for whatever reason we got the new pronounciation. DONT ASK ME WHY. This was like a year ago, if not more.

Also, how dare you. The old voice was PERFECT. The new voice is adequate, but the old voice was spot-on. End of discussion, nobody can refute this fact.

actually i think he pronounced it like this: "ill-oo-me-zay", but yeah,ur right.

Also Harley, bot r good, but i think i've grown used the new 1.

Who cares, at least you guys got the English version.

Crummy Dutch Voice Actors, Crummy Translations...beuh.

And I always said Illuh-Mizey.

Agreed with Señor Gardevoir. If we have a Movie, i ALWAYS play it in English. The Dutch Version's ALWAYS Sucks. The official in dutch is Il-lu-mi-sey, or something. it ends with a A (Atleast, the way you say sey is like you say A, with a s before ofcourse)

Yeah it is also pronounced this way in an episode with the volbeat thats in love with the illumise. I think love at first flight was the episode title. It does sound weird considering how it is spelt.

Well that's silly. Ilu-meezy it is I guess.

Also re: Harley, I heard the new one first and he sounds cooler

SO THERE PORY. >:/

Yeah, I remember seeing him call it that......When R/S first came out, I called it Ill-a-Moose for some odd reason......dont even ask.

In Japanese, the name is pronounced "ee-loo-mee-zay", not sure about where the stresses are. If a Pokémon's name is the same in both Japanese and English, usually the name is pronounced with same-sounding syllables in both languages.

I should have known. According to SPP, Illumise's JP name is "Illumise", which would indeed be pronounced "ee-loo-mee-zay".

Makes much more sense now. =D

I bet everyone has got it wrong. It's probably supposed to be "Illu-missy" or something weird like that.

In fact, it might have been spelt wrong too...

*goes on a mass doubting spree, none of you actually exist.*
