You don't get a prize card when your Pokemon are KO'ed. Your opponent does. When you KO something, you can chose any prize card you want.

Your prize cards are 6 cards you set aside facedown from the top of your deck after you draw your opening hand. Each time you knock out one of your opponent's pokemon, you pick up one of your own prize cards. You never ever ever ever exchange cards with your opponent.

As James stated, when your pokemon is knocked out by an opponents attack, he or she may draw any of their 6, pre-determined prize cards that have been separated from the rest of the game. These are the only cards that may be chosen as a KO prize.
