Fire Starter Anime Theme?

So apprently throughout each season of the Anime the Fire Starter of each region is always a subject to torture or is traumatized or abandoned by their own Trainers with of course the only exception of Generation 3 since Torchic was owned by a main character of the series that was soon later "phased out" just like all the other female leads after Misty in the series.

In Gen 1, Charmander was left for dead while being saved by Ash and his friends. Gen 2 Cyndaquil was left behind by a Trainer who was disappointed in it, Gen 3 was the only exception due to May owning Torchic, Gen 4 Chimchar was abandoned by Paul, while in Gen 5 Pokabu was abandoned and starved until Ash and Iris saved it.

Actually Cyndaquil was not left behind by a trainer. Ash captured it in what was supposed to be a forest full of Cyndaquil after competing with another trainer Koji and Team Rocket (Suprirse, suprise).

Still, it does seem to be a semi-recurring theme.

They probably want to give them a "hardened" personality because of all the abuse they received. Fire types don't seem to screw around when times get tough.
