Helluuu~. A few weeks ago, I was doing some research on Mega Evolutions, bored out of my mind and looking to build a new Battle Spot Doubles team. As I researched, a particular Pokemon caught my interest rather quickly, (the list was alphabetical so ._.) that Pokemon being Mega Aggron. With absurd defense and a slew of support moves in it's movepool, why not make a stall team around it? And so I did, and here it is ^_^ Enjoy~
Smirk (Aggron) @ Aggronite
Ability: Sturdy
EVs: 200 HP / 56 Atk / 56 Def / 196 SpD
Careful Nature
- Stealth Rock
- Heavy Slam
- Roar
- Protect
This gen around, Aggron had the blessing of recieving it's very own Mega Evolution, and like most of them, this one is not to be taken lightly. With an absurd defensive stat (230) and an amazing ability in Filter, Aggron has the power to wall any and all physical sweepers without a significant boost. Stealth Rock in Aggron's move set helps to deal a little extra damage to opponents, especially the dreaded Mega Charizard Y. Heavy Slam is Aggron's main attacking move, giving it a way to deal good damage after a Taunt. Roar is mostly to erase boosts from foes like Aegislash who threaten it with a +2 Sacred Sword, as well as to cause helpful hazard damage with Stealth Rock in play.
Smile (Clefable) @ Life Orb
Ability: Magic Guard
EVs: 252 HP / 252 Def / 4 SpD
Calm Nature
- Calm Mind
- Wish
- Dazzling Gleam
- Thunder Wave
You know, Clefable never struck me as a Pokemon that I would use. However, come Gen 6, Clefable got a huge boost in the form of it's newly obtained Fairy-typing, which now makes it a formidable tank. Calm Mind provides a much needed boost to it's Special stats, helping to tank powerful specially offensive moves, while also making it an offensive threat itself. I ran Wish over Soft-Boiled because I have no way to get the move from the move tutor in Emerald. However, Wish works just as nicely, and even better in some aspects, giving Clefable the ability to heal it's teammates. Dazzling Gleam is a nice STAB move with great coverage that hits both opposing Pokemon. Thunder Wave is present to slow and cripple Pokemon that may pose trouble to the team.
Beam (Vaporeon) @ Leftovers
Ability: Water Absorb
EVs: 252 HP / 156 Def / 100 SpD
Bold Nature
- Wish
- Protect
- Toxic
- Scald
Vaporeon is Mega Aggron's buddy on this team. What Mega Aggron is weak to, Vaporeon can take care of with a simple Scald. If there happens to be a Pokemon that could hurt Vaporeon, it can just Protect and wait for Mega Aggron to Roar it away. This doesn't mean that Vaporeon can't hold it's own, though. With Wish, Protect, and Toxic, and the chance to burn with Scald, Vaporeon can stall Pokemon out with status easily.
Grimace (Sableye) @ Sitrus Berry
Ability: Prankster
EVs: 252 HP / 120 Def / 136 SpD
Impish Nature
- Taunt
- Will-O-Wisp
- Recover
- Foul Play
I've never used Sableye before, in spite of it's cheapness, but Sableye works great on this team. Thanks to Prankster, the normally slow Sableye can stop set-up sweepers with a Taunt, or burn offensive sweepers like Garchomp. Sableye also has a helpful priority Recover, which heals damage before a Pokemon gets to hurt it that turn. The last move in the set is Foul Play, which hits Swords and Dragon Dancers hard.
Pursed (Jellicent) (F) @ Lum Berry
Ability: Cursed Body
EVs: 252 HP / 120 Def / 56 SpD
Calm Nature
- Recover
- Will-O-Wisp
- Night Shade
- Protect
The first four Pokemon on the list were the main build of the team. I pondered and pondered for a day, testing the first four, searching for weaknesses, and I was surprised to find out that the team was playing perfectly with just those four Pokemon. So, I thought to myself, why not just throw in a Pokemon that I liked? That Pokemon was Jellicent. Jellicent is an absolutely fantastic special wall, and just fun to use. Will-O-Wisp serves to stop threatening physical attackers from dealing more damage than they should, and Night Shade deals a reliable 50 damage whenever it's needed. Jellicent's ability Cursed Body can also cause some fun with a chance to disable a hard hitting move.
Grin (Noivern) @ Choice Specs
Ability: Infiltrator
EVs: 4 Atk, 252 Sp Atk, 252 Spe
Hasty Nature
- Draco Meteor
- Flamethrower
- Air Slash
- U-Turn
There was one thing that my team had trouble with: Other stall teams. Not only that, but stall vs stall was just boring. I needed a stall breaker, and Noivern was a perfect choice. With the ability Infiltrator, Noivern can use it's great Special Attack with no boundaries, allowing it to pass through the protection of Light Screen. Draco Meteor is it's main move of choice, hitting most of the tier hard. If it needs to stick around longer rather than switch out to erase the stat drop from Draco Meteor, Noivern has Air Slash and Flamethrower at it's disposal. And if there's just no way for Noivern to deal the damage it needs to, it can make a quick escape with a U-Turn while dealing a little bit of damage on the way out.
