Strategy:
So, elephants are cool, right? You know what else is cool? Mother-loving Dragons and Samurai-Otters, that's what! Basically this deck is what the title claims it to be. Battle Roads are almost here (I live in Toronto and we literally have 1 on Oct. 2/2011... in Hamilton, Ontario - a ~1.5 hour long drive!...derp) and I am quite confident that TyRam/ Reshiphlosion/TyphloRam as well as other Donphan variants will be running about in droves. Basically, Samurott is here to deal with opposing Donphans and *insert fire pokemon with water weakness here.* It can also tank with 2 energies (DCE + fighting) in Donphan's place. Reshiram and Zekrom help against Kingdra by nerfing it and hitting it for weakness. Zekrom is also an obvious utility for Yanmega as well.
Additional Improvement Related Comments:
I'm currently trying to find a balance between consistency and adaptability with this deck. I'd like it to be able to have a series of good counters to a lot of the metagame without struggling to keep consistent results. I have a pretty good blend of the two right now, but I am ready to accept any criticisms that could make this deck better.
Testing History:
Total Matches: 12
Stage 1's: 4 games played, zero losses. I find this a little tough to swallow and I think I might have an issue with the list I'm testing against:
Here it is:
http://www.pokebeach.com/forums/thread-stage-1s-galore-donphan-yanmega-zoroark
TyphloRam: 6 games played, 1 loss. I can get at least one Samurott going per game and they really help against the Reshirams that I would otherwise struggle with a bit. I test against the Pokebeach Community Decklist:
http://www.pokebeach.com/forums/thread-pok%C3%A9beach-community-decklist-3-reshiplosion-reshiram-typhlosion-prime?highlight=community+decklist
The Mirror (Standard Donphan + Dragons): 2 games played, zero losses. They get an early lead on prizes but Samurott does bad things to opposing Donphan Primes and can be out by T2 if they get an early catcher KO on a phanpy or oshawott and I use twins. I also test against the Community Decklist for this:
http://www.pokebeach.com/forums/thread-community-decklist-4-donphan-dragons-donphan-reshiram-zekrom?highlight=community+decklist
MegaZone\MegaJudge + Variants: No matches yet. I kinda need a list for testing here. I feel like Magnezone will definitely hurt Samurott especially with Donphan's Earthquake constantly hitting by bench, but I can always prioritize Donphan over Samurott and attempt to avoid the issue altogether. Kingdra and Jirachi are notable techs to worry about with Jirachi devolving my active tank (Donphan or Samurott) and Kingdra being able to snipe the way it does. I'm hoping Reshiram and Catcher will help with these.
Vileplume Lock + Variants: No matches yet, need decklist(s). google' Deck (aka The Truth, aka The Smexiest Collection of Cards I've Ever Seen), Bearplume (nuff hype), etc. are some of the more dangerous decks to play if they are allowed to set up. Fortunately, DD+Samurott is reliably fast and can help knock out those low hp basics (oddish, gothi-err basic form of gothitelle, solosis etc.) and stagger their already slow set up. Beartic doesn't frighten me too much as he can be played around and can be denied prizes so long as the Water-weak pokemon in this deck stay out of the active while Samurott/Zekrom (who likes being active and taking damage for Outrage) 1/2/3HKO him.
Concluding Thoughts:
Any criticism is more than appreciated and will always be considered. I sincerely do appreciate any help. Thanks a (metric) tonne.
