Deleting instead...?

I was just looking around and all of the locking threads is starting to look bad. Would it be better to delete threads instead of locking them? I would REALLY like to delete all of my threads that were locked. It would be a LOT easier...

Well, if you guys wouldn't make so many spam threads and revive so many threads, you'd see a lot less locked threads. :O

Thus, we get to where we wouldn't need to lock threads, and/or delete them.

Yeah...but do you really think EVERYONE would follow that and actually try it? And sometimes it is hard not to make a spam thread, or maybe it is a spam thread but you don't think it is at the time.

Not everyone might follow it, but it'd sure help if most members did.

Threads that are posted for the sole purpose of spam are usually deleted, but other threads are simply locked to show other members what is unacceptable. Since most members don't actually read through the rules thoroughly, it is a method to get them to learn the rules without reading them.

I agree with bubba, especially in the general pokemon discussion, there are a ton of locked threads! If there are multiple offenses of a certain crime (2 locked threads next to eachother, both locked for revival) then deleting at least one I think would be suitable.

It's not ALL of us that are making these threads, just a few people. Your making it sound like its all of us:p

Couldn't the people who want to delete all of their locked threads get their wish...like me?

It's time consuming to go through everyone's old posts and delete them upon their request. There is no more deleting or locking threads upon the request of the author anymore. It's simple - if you don't want your threads to be locked, don't post threads that would be locked.

Hmm...okay. I might just delete all of my threads that are REALLY old and can no longer be posted on to make my threads page look better...

If the threads were deleted, then the other readers, especially the new members, about what not to post in the future. Obviously, there will be no more threads that can guide the members about what not to post.

So now the Mods blame US for the amount of spam threads? The reason here are so many spam threads is because n00bs are to lazy to read the rules and say they didn't know there was rules or some stupid excuse like that :/ If you can rig a PM that sends to members when they registered that was the link to thje rules in it so they don't have an excuse for not reading them.

The typical new member is not going to read the rules. Trust me, they might click on the link, but most of them aren't going to take the time to actually read the rules in its entirety.

I think what KG says sums this up pretty much.

Being Honest, I don't think I read the rules when I came. I only got round to reading them when I had been here a couple of months already. But I, like all newbies, didn't keep to the rules exactly, however though, I assumed that it would be pointless to make spam threads. I learnt what threads that weren't completely spam, just not allowed, were not acceptable by reading them, and seeign they were locked. If we just deleted them, we wouldn't be able to learn from them.

Also, as for blaming the n00bs for not reading the rules, although they should read them, many of them should in reality be common sence. I am no Mr. perfect as an example, but if you stopped to think, is there a point in this thread? Without reading the rules, you could tell to an extent what you should be doing. Rules on advertising, signiture length, etc are a different story, but rules on spam, flaming, and others, are just common sence. These are the kind of threads that are most commonly locked, so I think that the cause is not that we don't read the rules, but we can't be bothered to think if what we are doing is necessary.

You know, I was thinking of making an intro kinda thing for the new members to read. Like the dos & don'ts or something like that.

Is it possible to make a SHORTER Rules thread so the n00bs don't have to 'Suffer' reading such a LONG post?

I was thinking of such a thing a while back. Initially, I thought simplifying it into just a short paragraph is good enough, but I then thought that no one would like to read a bunch of boring words. I think we should all come up with interesting ways to get the rules into members way, be it by video, audio or just plain words.

I thought of an idea that may be good if done well - a banner with a ban sign like this:

smoking%20ban%20no-smoking-logo.jpg

Well, since it is quite small, it could be placed in people's sig (especially mods who just loves the rules), or even in the PokéBeach Forums banner (though it would look ugly). But before we come to that, let's come to the design of the image...

Well, IMO it should be just an image, but an animation. More of an image slide-show. The images depict people doing wrong stuff, with the ban sign across the image. It may not be easy to depict someone spamming, and so there is the problem. Nevertheless, if done well, it could pay off well.

I do remember one particular animated banner depicting about the consequences of double posting, which also being quite funny people got the general message. Maybe it could be something along those lines.

It woudn't be a good idea, since...put it this way, a thread has over 3000 posts, it dies, and a random noob comes and posts in it, and look at the postcount gone from there.
