Ruling Cyrus's Conspiracy

A friend of mine and I got into an argument about this card and I went looking for a ruling on it but couldn't find one to answer my question, so I'm asking it here.

Lets say you play Cyrus's Conspiracy and pull out the Supporter and the Basic Energy but don't pull out the trainer cause you know you don't have one.

Is this a legal play? My friend says it isn't but I say it is.

Reason I say it is is cause the deck isn't public knowledge to everyone therefore giving the impression that the trainer may be in my hand or my prizes.

It is a legal play to not grab a trainer, even if there is a trainer that could be grabbed. Deck contents are not publicly known or remembered so you are allowed to not take one of the cards.~Mark

I'd like to add to this by saying that even if you obviously have a Supporter, Energy or eligible Trainer in your deck (e.g. your opponent knows you have five energies in your deck because you used Palmer's on your previous turn), you could purposely fail the search and it would still be a legal play.
