Are you interested in playing Pokémon TCG, but you (are)...

  • Bored of the current metagame?
  • Want to use your good, old cards?
  • Want to try out something completely different?
  • Interested in custom formats?

Then, Retro Unlimited is a format you'll definitely enjoy!

HOW DOES IT WORK?

Retro Unlimited is a format that is trying to create a balanced format using the old cards from the Wizards-era. However, it doesn't want to recreate the same competitive level of the game, as there were some issues (broken cards and rules) at that time of the game.

Because of it, some rules will be different, and some cards will work completely differently.

Currently, the format includes sets from Base Set to Neo Destiny (& Legendary Collection). However, some cards from later sets are allowed in the game, to make the metagame more diversed and balanced.

The first and most important rule is that You can only activate 1 "Trainer card" per turn. With that ruling, all the toolboxing and searching engine that existed in the game is now gone (bye-bye, Donk decks), and it is now only about the Pokémon and their real powers.

There is also a banlist of cards that are now allowed to be used, and a few cards will get an errata too.

If you have any questions, or you just want to comment on the format, or giving more ideas for the project, feel free to do it! Replies are really appreciated!

ADVANCED RULES

The following rules are applied to the game:

  • The cards work as they initially worked when they were released, not as they work nowadays. If there's a card that got a recent errata. For example, Computer Search is not an ACE SPEC card (but because of the new rulings, you can only play 1 Trainer per turn).
  • Names matter during evolution and deck building.

For future references:

  • Pokémon Power, Poké-Power, Poké-Body, and Ability, for making things simpler, are the same thing. If a card references one, it references each of them.
  • The main card types are Pokémon, Energy and Trainers. Items and Supporters do NOT exist in this format (they are simply Trainers with no sub-type). Stadium, Tool and Rocket's Secret Machine are the only sub-type of Trainer cards.
  • Delta Species are treated as a different name rather than the usual Pokémon with different type combinations.
