Anyone had troubles with game consles? The difference between my DS and DS lite is intresting.

My DS died due to a broken connection in the charger socket. It survieved being dropped down the stairs, but thats not related to the broken connection.

My DS lite dropped off a coffee table and the screen broke open.

Conclusion:
A lot of companies are making their old consles slimmer, but that isn't necessarily a good thing. Nintendo should have made the DS lite a bit bigger and more sturdy.

I have not had any experience with retro consles, so what do other people think about the consles getting flimsier?

The DS is just more flimsier IMO. I think that Nintendo didn't mean to make it that way, but the hinges are what do it for most people. ://

dmaster out.

You just had bad luck with your DS Lite.

Mine survived being accidentally hurled out of a car window. While moving.

my normal DS didn't survive being purposely chucked to the ground by my parents in a fit of rage tho... The DS Lite can survive MUCH more...

I think you may have a point about consoles getting flimsier. Since most revisions to consoles usually involve reducing the size and weight somehow, they become much more delicate in the process.

My PS2 has suffered many a great fall thanks to our cats that we have. I have the original, and it still works just fine. But I'm not sure if the new Slim model would have the same luck.

As for my DS Lite and PSP Slim, I try not to drop them, but when I do, it doesn't really phase them much. I try to be more careful with the PSP though. It just feels like it could break easily.

Another thing I remember is my PS2 slim is in very much worse condition to my friends PS2. And he has had it double the time I have had my PS2.

They have gotten, well, weaker. I remember when I was a little kid, my friend had a gameboy (the original one), and he dropped it down a...uh, what was it... Well, it was like a ditch, but about 15 or so feet deep, cement bottom, in a puddle. He got it back, and it still worked, as if nothing had happened. So, yeah, I think so. Oh, and my gameboy SP's screen cracked in half just by dropping it once, brand new. :S

My SP cracked from a fall. It turns on but you cant see anything. I dropped my DS original in a puddle. It still worked. Hey it wasn`t my fault. I was carrying heavy bags at 10 years old in the rain. It fell out of my pocket, which is why I don`t trust pokets. My GB color lived through a lot. It still works. I`m thirteen. I used to play it since I was three. I dropped my DS Light while it was folded. It was fine. But I`m scared to drop it unfolded, fearing that the impact might jerk the screen back and disconnect it. Respect Vegeta.

What happend to your SP's is the same fate as my DS lite... I had only had it for a week. I used to have an SP and I dropped it a lot. I ended up selling it for a DS. My consles do get bad treatment. My brother is always knocking them around. But yeah a GBA feels sturdy, and a DS Lite feels... breakable.

Yeah, the DS lite seems to be like that. In fact, I closed it normally one day, and one of the hinges or something broke off (I still have it in a desk somewhere), and now the screen can't support itself, and whenever it bends a little, the top screen flashes. :S

Remeber that if something has less weight it wont fall with as much force. So if they reducing the weight of the consoles they wont have as much force when they fall. But then again if they have more weight that should give extra protection... I'm confused

My DS too.
I was trying to use the GBA's insurance policy to get a GBASP. First I would need the GBA to be broken so I could get the SP cheaper. I slammed it around and stuff. It was fine. I asked my dad. Even he couldn`t break that thing. So he dropped it in water. This proves that the GBA original was the sturdiest console ever. But we all know water finds it's ways around things.

Yes, my normal DS has survived many a battle over it's two and a half year life, and it still works wonderfully, but... my DS Lite was completely ruined in many more ways than one in a just few months of its life. The hinge broke off, the R and L buttons don't work, the screen got discolored, it system won't even turn on anymore, and... I don't even remember what else was wrong with it. :/

The strange thing is that I never even dropped my DS Lite once. I've dropped my normal DS, like, a bazillion times.
