We all saw this coming, the real question now is who will buy them out?

RE: Capcom is now up for sale

It's not for sale like Atlus was a while back.

It's just become much easier than it was before to get their IPs. Before this it was impossible to buy their IPs. Now it's just become possible for it to happen.

RE: Capcom is now up for sale

Good point although there's a possibility that whoever buys out Capcom is probably going to do nothing with the existing IP's they've purchased or just ruin them like what Nintendo did to Sega when they bought them out awhile back. The only IP from Sega that Nintendo uses is Sonic: The Hedgehog anyway which is a shame when there's other solid IP's from Sega at their disposal that they could be using instead of just their own IP's as most Japanese game developers and producers don't take advantage of the IP's they get ahold of from other companies.

Nintendo of course showcased none of that potential at E3 this year by only focusing on their own IP's and not any of the other IP's originally created by Sega. Sega isn't just Sonic: The Hedgehog which got butchered with the new Sonic Boom game from the creators of Crash Bandicoot, it's also IP's like Streets of Rage, Nights, Daytona USA, Jet Set Radio, Golden Axe, Virtua Fighter, and even ToeJam & Earl. If Nintendo wanted to release a new Streets of Rage they could but they won't since they only cater to a young demographic of gamers compared to how they catered to all demographics of gamers in the 80's and 90's.

We all know the worst case scenario in this situation would be Microsoft buying out Capcom and their IP's considering that they bought out Rare and sat on the Killer Instinct IP for a decade before re-releasing it on the XBOX One. During the fallout of the Great Recession in 2008-2009 Microsoft gained a HUGE monopoly on the video game industry leaving their competitors in the dust, If there's a company that should buy out Capcom I think it would either be Valve or Sony since If Nintendo buys out Capcom they're just going to treat it the same way they've been treating Sega in the last few years. Knowing how out of touch with the video game industry Satoru Iwata is with Nintendo as a whole I doubt he has the balls to buy out Capcom.

Nintendo didn't bought Sega! Otherwise, why is Yakuza still selling on Sony systems and Total War series still launching on PC and not on WiiU when the Gamepad seems perfect for it?
Also, from Wikipedia:
"On May 17, 2013, Sega announced a worldwide partnership with Nintendo for the Sonic the Hedgehog franchise and announced that the next three Sonic games (Sonic Lost World, Mario & Sonic at the Sochi 2014 Olympic Winter Games and Sonic Boom) will be exclusive to Nintendo devices.[52] The same day, Sega Europe announced that the publishing and distribution rights for the next three Sonic games in Europe and Australia will be handed to Nintendo."

I'm hoping that Nintendo buys Capcom. Nintendo bought the exclusivity for "Devil's Third", supported the development of Bayonetta 2 and since it's always in a cold war with third-parties (either these with Nintendo or/and Nintendo with them, though I think it's the first) Nintendo needs to expand their catalogue.
While I understand the reason for not developing a new Onimusha (wanting to bring a new and good story and not just some filler game), I think one is needed and I would also like to see the return of Alex Kidd from Sega.

Satowu Iwata might be out of touch but this E3 showcased Nintendo's potencial with new blood - just look at Splatoon and its creators so in the end Satowu still knows how to strike back. Yes, Nintendo might have focused on its own titles but again, it did a marvelous job at it and it showed the most important: games and without deceiving!
You're speaking of the market but honestly the market is a mess and it's a great think that Nintendo still exists. Have you look at Ubisoft!? Ubisoft is a despicable producer that cheats and lies. They now mass produce AC games, without improving much, without taking into account the fans opinions and suggestions and reusing stuff. They promise graphic rainbows and miracles as if graphics were the most important only to screw up and make a game (Watch_Dogs) worse than some of the first PS3 titles; they give shallow excuses that are nothing more than lies about including women in AC Unity, their only concern now is profit at all cost and with minimum work.
Microsoft? After the last E3 I don't care about it and Sony? They now have Vita as an accessory for the PS4 (they've been at it since WiiU's launch, first saying that the PS3 + Vita could do the same, then changing for the PS4, not taking care of Vita players who bought the console for its games and not just to have it as an accessory).

Two things:

1. Nintendo did not buy SEGA, they just made a deal that the next three Sonic games would be Nintendo exclusives.
2. No video game company on earth has enough development studios to bring back every single SEGA IP and still make their own games. Whoever would buy SEGA probably wouldn't use more than 2 or 3 of their IPs, so it probably would be a lot of Sonic either way (especially if it's Nintendo, not only does Sonic fit their roster like a glove, but they wouldn't hesitate to capitalize on the old 90's game rivalries with more Mario vs. Sonic spinoffs like Mario and Sonic at the Olympics).

Microsoft doesn't seem to care much about any IP that isn't "dudebro" (i.e. if it's not a shooter, a medieval RPG, or something otherwise gritty and realistic and M rated, they probably won't be interested in it), and they've only just recently started focusing on beefing up their game lineup, so it's not surprising that Rare's gotten shafted all these years. Plus most of the talent from Rare has left by now, which is why they're not doing much more than Kinect shovelware nowadays. So we'd probably see them use more Killer Instinct and Perfect Dark (but under other developers), and ignore stuff like Banjo and Conker.

If they were to buy out Capcom, they'd probably take a similar approach, they'd probably let Mega Man die and do more with stuff with IPs like Monster Hunter and Street Fighter. If Nintendo bought them, we'd probably see more Mega Man and Monster Hunter, maybe a little bit of Street Fighter.

In the 80s and 90s, "all demographics" were the "only demographics"; gaming was barely starting back then, and let's face it, sega fell because their only known IP was sonic, and it happened to be the only thing nintendo chose as the spoils of war.
Right now, nintendo's demographic is still 80's and 90's gamers, along with young kids. How many other companies have 20 year+ IPs and they keep making games for them?

And I don't think nintendo would ever develop a streets of rage. It's hardly family friendly.

I do hope nintendo buys resident evil, however. Or not. Maybe they should give it to someone who actually can make a good story.

RE: Capcom Now For Sale

Even if Nintendo were to buy Capcom or Sega, their wisest choice would be to keep those franchises under their original labels. Nintendo has created a very strong brand image, and I don't think it would be in their best interest to change that.

RE: Capcom Now For Sale

The title of this thread is extremely misleading. Capcom is not "for sale" at all, before it was impossible for a single third party to gain control over Capcom, the protection measures for that have simply been removed. Nobody at Capcom is looking for someone to "purchase" it.

The "purchasing" would mean gaining a hold of over 50% of the stocks if this works like it normally does. That also means that about over 50% of the current stock holders must be convinced to sell their shares (of course, a lot of money moves the world but don't think it's really easy to buy Capcom). Just to be sure, don't quote me on that though.

Also, Sega was never sold to anyone. .__.

RE: Capcom Now For Sale

About Capcom supposedly being up for sale, there were actual news articles online about it which I found out from watching ReviewTechUSA and AlphaOmegaSin on YouTube. They've usually pretty good when it comes to keeping tabs at what goes on in the video game industry these days. There's other YouTube channels I watch to get info on gaming as well such as Extra Credits and farfromsubtle in terms of the Show and Trailer segments on that channel.

I'll admit I was misinformed about Sega getting bought out by Nintendo when it was all just a false rumor. When it comes to video game journalism these days it's very easy to mistake false info you read on the internet with real proof just like with the news media and the tabloids compared to how it was hard to mistake the info through video game magazines in the 80's up until today. I don't know how markets work in the video game industry but I do the best I can to keep up with what's going on even though it might sound very misleading which isn't intentional on my part.

When you put it that way why do Sony and Microsoft try so hard to appeal less to 80's and 90's gamers compared to Nintendo? How is it justifiable for companies to sit on 20 year+ IP's without making games for them while they focus more on newer IP's like Skylanders that mainly appeal to younger demographics of gamers, I get that the studios for those IP's aren't there anymore but why do companies acquire old IP's for the sake of doing nothing with them? Being "family friendly" is a part of what's hurting Nintendo as a brand when what helped drive them to being successful was the help of third-party title development which is slowly coming back for them with the Wii U from what it seems.

I'd like to see more Darkstalkers than Street Fighter at this point whoever gets ahold of Capcom's IP's, especially a new Final Fight, Breath of Fire, and Dino Crisis. How many rehashes of Street Fighter do we need since it's literally become the Call of Duty of Fighting Games at this point? A sequel to Asura's Wrath would be nice despite the true ending DLC for it, I haven't got around to playing Monster Hunter at all and I've been losing interest in Mega Man lately due to personal reasons.
